I know I shouldn't laugh, but I couldn't help it....
I read a story online tonight, about someone dissing a new Dukes of Hazzard movie coming out soon (god help us all).

There's some guy who used to be on the show, and was also elected as a Democratic Congressman years ago (double God help us, squared), who is bitching up a storm about the movie. He also happens to run a little website, that trust me...a few clicks will have you laughing so hard, you'll cry.

http://www.cootersplace.com/

Pay special attention to his statement of outrage at the bottom, and the pictures of Dukefest 2005. I laughed my ass off when I saw the picture of all those "General Lee" cars going around the racetrack. This makes the people who dress up in Wookie costumes and attend Star Wars conventions, look positively "high brow".

There must be a lot of people in the South that are just horrified by the image this presents.

1. Yup It's Ben Jones

Who played Cooter the mechanic. He as a democratic congressman from Georgia who was defeated by Newt. As for not going to see the new movie he need now worry about me, I kinda thought The Dukes sucked even as a kid, however what I don't get is the insistence on the part of the original cast that this was somehow a "family Values" show.

Corrupt government... check
Corrupt Sherriff...check
old man who makes his own alcohol... Illegally...check
Female cousin who dresses like prostitute... check
two main good guy characters who constantly break the law, not to mention reckless driving...check
Tones of Incest...check
All of this and a shoot out every week!
Now tell me how this show was all about "family values"?

Oh well, it was mindless and I don't begrudge the people who liked this show, but me thinks Cooter should have other things more important to worry about.

Was he not asked to be in it?

7. but it's just good clean fun
:eyes:

My daughter and I saw the original series DVD at the store. I commented that it's the 'pukes of hazard'. I did get a couple of wayward looks in my direction...I wasn't surprised. This is TN.

I hated the show when it was on TV. It was stupid, ignorant and insulting. I never had anything to do with it and I won't now.

10. Incest?
I'll give you the other stuff, but incest? Who did who?

"Was he not asked to be in it?"

Probably not.

He must have some sort of arrangement for a share of the receipts for all that junk they sell in Gatlinburg, or he wouldn't do it, right?

I remember too much from this show. :)

3. Never seen it, but,
there's one guy who seems to be squeezing every drop of mileage he can possibly get out of being associated with what looks like a piece of crap TV show. The phrase "get a life" springs to mind.

4. Why do these "family value" types always review films they've never seen?
However, I'm eternally grateful to Dukes of Hazzard for one thing: back in the late 70's when I was growing up, this show - and shows like it - sucked so bad it got us out of the house to discover other things. LIKE PUNK ROCK.

And for that, I am grateful. It made me what I am today. "Thanx, Cooter, or whatever the fuck your failed-actor self is called these days. Enjoy the residuals while you can"

5. Hey! The Dukes of Hazzard wasn't so bad!
I remember thinking it was really simple entertainment... and I was just a little kid! It was very silly, and had insane car stunts that my brothers and I would laugh at because they were so unbelieveable... I liked Daisy, cause she didn't take crap from anyone, and could drive just as well as Bo and Luke...

Considering the harm I see coming from the regular MSM, I think it was quite innocent fun! :)

6. I agree
It was harmless and innocent :) But I've just never understood why the cast members of this show have insisted it so family values oriented.
I may be in the minority here but I think Television shows have been on a 30+ year decline to the point where now all we have is 7 people who all pass gas the same living in the same house.
You would think Televison couldn't get any worse then it is today but of course it will.

9. Next Big TV Trend: Roman Colosseum Events!
"Watch as the people voted off the island are tossed to the lions!
Behold the spectacle of 'American Gladiators' - only this time, they used real swords and maces!"

The thing was, the Dukes of Hazzard was just an 'appetizer' for the other shows - MASH, All In the Family, etc. It was just one show among so many other good shows. Now, it seems you are lucky if a show has a writer! :)

11. Oh, awright...I'm sorry. Let me rephrase my comment...
Back in the late 70's when I was a young pup, our "12 channel universe" (those old enough know what I mean) sucked so bad ACROSS THE BOARD that, unlike kids today - who can sit around on their ass all day watching 300+ channels - we were forced to get out of the house and find other forms of entertainment.

Even Daisy couldn't compete with an all-Canadian punk rock chick in torn fishnet stockings - IN THE FLESH. Apology accepted?

Dang, I'm jealous. I was a kid when Dukes of Hazzard came out but we only had 4 channels. CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS

18. ROTFLMAO Wow, I forgot how limited we were!
12 channels, but you could only use about 5 or 6 of them! I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and remember we could get KDKA (Bill and Patty Burns, Bob Kudzma) (channel 2), WTAE (Joe Denardo, Paul Long and MYRON COPE 'on spooortz!') (channel 4), WXXI (channel 11), PBS (Mr. Rogers! WQED ch. 13), and 53 (no clue what call letters were now) and 22?

We had a big antenna on the roof, and even with that, the picture stank... KDKA came in pretty well because it broadcast with a huge signal...

And you had to GET OUT YOUR CHAIR TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!! lol (Didn't have a remote til college...)

This is Cooterspeak referring to a fight over either a woman or beer.
