3. It's a bugger , that dying part
especially if you've got the lives of the USofA citizens at your hands .And remember O'connor , she hated this administration too .Which being appointed by reagan is quite the surprise .I can see it now , an angel in america like scene , where he sits on a bed in an antiseptic hospital room .With but his thoughts to keep him company ...it kinda catches up with you if you suddenly realize a fortune less favoreable really exists .I'll even go as far as too say he can see all those minorities who the supreme court sc**** over in his nightmares .Now tip that of with the mad fuckers in the white house , and i assure you he has every intent to die with his boots on .It's the only way he can at least keep hoping he'll do some justice to the human spirit , which every inteligent being get's especially close with when the end of all is near .

5. O'Connor hated this administration?
That's news to me. Her disappointment on election night 2000 when it looked like Gore was going to win would seem to indicate otherwise.

6. I'm sorry
she doesn't hate it , but in an article i read in the international herald tribune , still searching for it . It was said she hated to leave under this administration , believing it would be a blow to the nation .if i recall correctly the statement was made by someone close to the family ,nothing official .But it quoted her as saying 'this is admin does not understand the importance of the judiciary '

But i might be wrong .

7. Serves her right, then.
It should have to weigh on her conscience for the rest of her days how she made it possible for them to get into power. If she had voted consistent with states' rights, the Florida ruling would have stood, all the votes would have been counted, and Gore would have become president.

8. serves her right indeed
doesn't take away though , we're still pretty boned .Dare i whisper it , if gore had won the Iraq war would be stuff for bad neocon novels I read on the plane ride home .Kyoto would be the subject of the talking points , and the republicans would be a noisy bunch who were convinced the world needed more hate and a shitload less of love .

Thanks for pointing out me little err there

9. Nope.. He just has "Thurmond's Syndrome",,
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 10:12 AM by SoCalDem
The 'fat-cats' in government just have a little 'friendly competition' going on..like the people who try to eat as many hotdogs at one sitting as they can...or the ones who pust a grape with their nose..across the continent.. They're going for the record,bay-bee!

Of course Thurmond's record will be a tough one to beat. He vegged-out on the government's dime for about 20 years past his usefulness, and Renquist's days are numbered, but he's not quitting until they drag him out feet-first.

I doubt that he has a single shred of guilt (or decency) over the 2K fiasco.. It was their 'finest hour'..as far as the "gang of 5" goes.

15. to be honest, i don't
care for the man's decisions, or perspectives on almost everything. But i do .....resent?.... dislike...? the way the media, and so many 'talking heads' keep saying what he's going to do.
From those i've known at the point he is at in life, and given the trial this illness is putting him through, i believe that 'stepping down' would be akin to giving in to the cancer- and i can't help but admire, and honor him for that- as a fellow human being- regardless of how he and i may be miles apart on 'politics'- he is a person, who should be viewed as no less worthy or offered no less 'hope' than any other fellow human being.

i hope he outlasts this administration- that's a selfish hope, on my part- but i admit it.

i've seen the effort he exerts to 'remain' on the bench- watch him walking, and if you've known anyone going through chemo, not to mention being his age, you have to give him credit- He's not a 'push over' or a quitter- and i DO admire that stubborn lust for life.

12. Yes, that's PRECISELY what I think.
he's an old line Republican who was appointed by Reagan. Remember, Reagan (both Ron and Nancy) didn't like the Bushes. Many old line Republicans don't. He's holding out for either a moderate Republican chief or else a Clinton-style Democrat.
