Please note, MSNBC comes through ORBIT here in the UAE (it could be a delayed feed). I believe it was live though.

They quoted the RNC memo and a blurb from Sen. KAy Bailey Hutchinson and then basically said and I paraphrase: This apparently means their was n wrong-doing on Rove's part...

When I heard that story, they were quoting the RNC's talking points.

That phrase is included in their statement today.

Kudos to MSNBC correspondent Bob Kur for showing us and talking about the RNC talking points.

I'm glad they are finally drawing attention to that technique.

10. Any AP article containing a paragraph like this is suspect:
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 12:36 PM by emulatorloo
<snip>

Plame wasn’t undercover when outed

Wilson later told CNN that his wife was no longer in an undercover job at the time Novak’s column first identified her. “My wife was not a clandestine officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity,” he said.

<snip>

Um, I think what Wilson is saying is that Novak blew her cover.

Looks like they are letting Ken Mehlman write thier articles now.

35. You're right. I heard that and it was clear Wilson meant that his wife
was no longer covert as soon as the Novak story hit the street.

All that spinning otherwise is just for the court of public opinion. But the public no longer sees the Bush Administration as "honest and trustworthy" so they've got a big job ahead to make Karl Rove a sympathetic character. Even his supporters know Karl Rove is a dangerous man. This attempt to portray him as an innocent bystander is about as believable as "Mission Accomplished".

41. "Plame wasn't undercover ((any more)) when outed...."
It also seems to me that this is saying that from the moment Novak's column went to press, she was instantaneously exposed.

MSNBC updated too! (same link as above):

<snip>

Wilson clarifies comments about wife
In an interview on CNN earlier Thursday before the latest revelation, Wilson kept up his criticism of the White House, saying Rove’s conduct was an “outrageous abuse of power ... certainly worthy of frog-marching out of the White House.”

Wilson also said “my wife was not a clandestine officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity.”

In an interview Friday, Wilson said his comment was meant to reflect that his wife lost her ability to be a covert agent because of the leak, not that she had stopped working for the CIA beforehand.

His wife’s “ability to do the job she’s been doing for close to 20 years ceased from the minute Novak’s article appeared; she ceased being a clandestine officer,” he said.

This whole thing has been a huge distraction with the only benefit being a lot of stupid Americans will catch the knews and have come away with the feeling of a WH scandal.

And by "Collins" do you mean Miller?

And that's not really news - any number of talking heads for the Republicans have been trying to talk this one dead. Also, the link you provide certainly doesn't make it seem like it's dead. Your headline could definitely be improved upon.

Plus, it is not just the original outing, this is also about: misuse of classified documents, conspiracy, perjury, obstruction of justice and who knows what else.

37. EVERYBODY CALM DOWN. THIS NEW DEVELOPMENT IS AWESOME.
The media is running well behind its own story--they don't appreciate, yet, that this new development worsens, rather than aids, the White House's situation, as it confirms yet again that Rove lied to the public, as did the White House, and was clearly responsible for a prosecutable leak.

I've blogged about this in simple, brief terms here. If anyone can find holes in the theory that this development helps the Rove accusers enormously, let me know.

38. It does not say the story is dead. It also relies o outdated statements by
the prosecutors! Watch out for the spin

“Karl provided all pertinent information to prosecutors a long time ago,” Luskin said. “And prosecutors confirmed when he testified most recently in October 2004 that he is not a target of the investigation.”

The most important point is that the "invesigation has shifted", and therefore the statement above is outdated and therefore neither here nor there.

From the column of John W Dean

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Hogan's opinion in the case gives one clue. In discussing the sealed affidavit filed by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald, Judge Hogan noted that "the government's focus has shifted as it has acquired additional information during the course of the investigation" and "now needs to pursue different avenues in order to complete its investigation." Though vague, these references are also significant.

snip

That would explain Judge Hogan's comment that the focus of the investigation, according to the government affidavit, has shifted. It would explain why a seasoned prosecutor has gone after Miller and Cooper, and why a number of federal judges have seen no problem in his doing so.
