Coroner: Toddler killed by LAPD bullet
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 12:34 PM by dogday
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- The 19-month-old toddler who died during a gunfire exchange between police and her father was killed by a single police bullet to the head, the Los Angeles County coroner said Wednesday.

The report said it came from a Los Angeles Police Department officer's rifle.

The girl's father, Jose Raul Pena, died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner said.

Pena, 34, was holding his daughter Suzy when he opened fire on police last Sunday, unleashing 40 shots in three separate exchanges. He and his daughter died in a hail of gunfire after he confronted police in an alley behind his apartment.

1. So much for fatherly love.....
What an abomination! I do believe you left out the fact that daddy was using his baby daughter as a shield...while he was firing at the police and innocent bystanders.

2. I did not leave out anything
I found the article and posted the first four paragraphs, if the information was not in them, it was the fault of the writer. I do know Daddy used her as a shield. I think this is such a damn shame....

4. Why would you blame the father. Of course he was holding his daughter.
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 12:48 PM by shance
It's both predictable and convenient for the police to now accuse the dead father of using his daughter for a shield.

Thats not a fact Liberal Nurse, thats what you call hearsay.

5. You apparently have a problem
Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 01:55 PM by liberalnurse
with Law Enforcement preforming their assignment of protecting the public. The father was the fault...... that is a fact. The father could care less for the life of his daughter and made the gesture without compassion but with narcissistic arrogance. He had his daughter killed. He was holding his daughter to shield himself not in some tender embrace.......

6. the dead baby was killed by the police
i bet those police officers are upset about shooting that child, regardless of the father's fault in the matter, because, of course, that would be a normal, human reponse. i am sure no cop actually wants to kill a baby, regardless of who the parent is.

7. That was the point of this post
That this was a child, look at her. Was there no way this could of been prevented. I understand both sides, I just feel really bad for the child....

 it's tragic enough withOUT the usual policearealwaysright cheerleaders excusing this child's death as "protecting the public." at the bottom of the article, the reporter mentioned that this is only the second hostage situation death...since the 1970's. it just may be that the police aren't always right.

8. Of course they all were devastated.
The sad fact of the situation was a double-edged sword. Each and every Officer across the country grieves....

Ultimately, the father knowingly and willingly placed the baby in that situation.

12. the man was clearly deranged
and of course the police knew that...that's why they were called.
i'll wait for a full investigation before i decide who was and who was not at fault.

Edited on Fri Jul-15-05 04:41 PM by noiretblu

the mother just lost her child, you self-righteous A%&%$#E. you don't know a thing about her or her life from reading this own article, but clearly that will never stop your policearealways right FANATICISM.

10. I do feel sorry for the mother
too bad she wasn't more selective on who she chose to father her child, but ultimately the father is to blame, but it does sound like the police might have handled the situation better. I do place some sympathy with the officer that fired the shot, can you imagine how he/she must feel.

16. Horrible.
Why didn't this loser just shoot himself and be done with it instead of getting his poor child killed? It's damn shame.
