Here is a theory -
Maybe it is too simple minded - but here goes....

Novak outs Plame.
Wilson is outraged and along with the CIA - demand a forman investigation and Bush concedes and appoints Fitzgerald.
Rove talked to at least Novak and Cooper.
Novak is free as a bird - so it stands to reason that he sang like a bird to Fitzgerald, whilst Miller is sitting in jail - even though she did not write any story on this subject.
Cooper was threatened with imprisonment, but was released and was allowed to testify.

Here is my theory of what may of occured -

Novak told Rove.
But who told Novak? I am wondering if it was Miller. Miller got the info from Scooter Libby - and passed it on to Novak. Novak gets it confirmed via Rove. Was Libby on the flight to Africa with Bush, Powell etc?
There has been mention of Chalabi being Miller's source for false WMD - but it could not of been Chalabi as how could he get access to classified information? And how did Novak find out about where Plame's undercover work was?

Miller is the key. Novak already sang - and while Rove is complicit - in confirming classified information, he is only one part of the story.

This goes right to the office of the Vice President. Methinks we are sounding off to impeach the wrong guy - Cheney is the one to be impeached.....Cheney impeached and Rove imprisoned. Let us see what kind of president Bush really is without his puppeteers........

1. Isn't your theory to circular:

"Novak told Rove.

How can Novak tell Rove and then get it confirmed by Rove?

3. Well - he mentions it to Rove
and Rove confirms it. Rove did not tell him - he just confirms what Novak said was true - or that he had heard it as well. That is what I meant.

i thought you meant Rove is in the dark, Novak mentions Plame is CIA, and THEN novak uses rove to confirm that plame is CIA...

2. The interesting thing is...

How would Novak know, unless he also was CIA?

Most people take it at face value that he got it from Administration officials, and maybe he did, but they might have told him because it was totally his business to know.

Seems the investigative crosshairs have completely ignored Novak's undeniably central role in this thing. Why?

5. Even if he was CIA
He cannot release that information without being subject to the same laws as the rest of us.....is that not correct?

6. I don't know.
There seems to be a changing story on whether or not Plame was covert. Even Wilson now says she was not, but the Agency confirmed that she was.

It's like the story is constantly being changed to fit a set of goals with no regard for truth.

8. No change in the story on whether she was covert.
She was covert up to the time of the Novak article. Wilson said but by the time of the Vanity Fair Article she was not covert (thus he did not out her).

4. Not bad,
but keep in mind that Rove told Cooper about "Wilson's wife" several days before Novak's article was published. I'm not sure how this affects your scenario, but it is part of the record.

7. Except nofacts has already said different
"I didn't dig it out. It was given to me. They thought it was significant. They gave me the name, and I used it."

--Robert Novak, as quoted in Newsday, June 23, 2003

If this is what nofacts told the GJ, and rove said he heard it from nofacts to the GJ then someone (or BOTH) is LYING and in very big trouble.

9. So perhaps it was Libby who contacted Novak
And then how do we tie in the fact that Miller is sitting in jail? What evidence could she be hiding - and who is she protecting?

I was just trying to fit her into the scenario as it is clear that she is important to the investigation.

12. IMPORTANT UPDATE
Just found this on Americablog - ( I have goosebumps - cause I had thought of my theory before reading this!!!!!!)

http://americablog.blogspot.com/

snip - Novak reportedly ratted everyone out to Grand Jury
by John in DC - 7/15/2005 03:07:00 PM

RADAR got a pretty good scoop here (I had nothing to do with it).

Interestingly, not only does it say that Novak spilled his guts to the grand jury, but he reportedly told them that the NYT's Judith Miller told Novak about Valerie Plame's CIA identity, then Novak called his two White House sources (one of which was Rove) for confirmation.

Interesting. So, when Karl Rove's anonymous source says today that Rove found out about Plame from journalists, did that source mean Judy Miller?
Did Robert Novak rat on New York Times reporter Judith Miller? While some have suggested Miller—who never wrote a word about CIA spook Valerie Plame—was dragged into the leak probe when her name turned up on a White House call log, several beltway insiders close to the investigation say special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald learned of Miller’s involvement from Novak himself.

(From now on, I promise to use my psychic powers for good.....)

15. Judith Miller is in this up to her eyeballs...
Is she in jail because she was threatened if she discloses her sources?

17. Novak's statements make this a bit unlikely
See DU front page:
