A letter put forth by ranking House Judiciary Committee Democrat John Conyers (D-MI) calling on Bush adviser Karl Rove to explain or resign over his role in the outing of a CIA agent has garnered signatures from 91 members of Congress and was issued to President Bush late yesterday, RAW STORY has learned.

The Michigan Democrat had about a dozen or so signatures last week, but that rose dramatically after recent new revelations about Rove's correspondence and conversations with journalists.

The House Democratic leadership, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), did not sign onto the letter. They did, however, issue a letter to Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) asking that relevant House committees schedule hearings on the outing of the covert agent, Valerie Plame Wilson.

"We urge you to direct that committees with jurisdiction over the Plame matter schedule hearings immediately," the House Democratic leaders write. "In previous Republican Congresses the fact that a criminal investigation was underway did not prevent extensive hearings from being held on other, much less significant matters."

Conyers received a similar number of signatures from members on Congress on a letter about the Downing Street memo.

The letter is produced below.
