the policeman killed the same day JFK was...what's the story on him?????

I remember at the time thinking the media put out a big story about the policeman within minutes of JFK's shooting

then later seemed to change the story and then later story basically disappeared......except there was TV coverage of the policeman's funeral

2. I believe his name was Tippets or Tippits -- don't remember...

his first name but I think it may have been Edward. (Googling brings up nothing.) He's the man Lee Harvey Oswald was actually arrested for shooting -- this before the Dallas Police claimed Oswald was the presidential assassin. Oswald, when interrogated, insisted he had shot no one -- neither cop nor president. As I recall, the Warren Commission minimized the mystery surrounding Tippets' death by ignoring it, just as it did so many other vital questions (especially the ballistic impossibility the assassination was perpetrated by a single shooter).

Thanks. Discovery Channel and History Channel have done pieces on this: hours worth. I think it was called, "The Man Who Shot Kennedy. They usually rerun it around the anniversary".

even in shock at JFK's death I was puzzled at the change in story/coverage

BTW, Dan Rather, a young newsman traveling with the president, got his national start by being the first or one of the first to break the JFK story to the nation

3. Yes, Tippett

Supposedly, Oswald was running away from the School Book Depository back to his Rooming House when he encountered Tippett and shot him.

That is just from memory, so feel free to correct or elaborate.

7. Actually

As I remember the account, Oswald was on his way from his rooming house to God knows where when he encountered Tippet...where was he going?...some have speculated he was on his way to pick up his payoff...who knows....maybe Jack Ruby knew.....

"patrolman j.d. tippet." None of the other spellings and/or combinations I tried brought up anything. (Don't know where I got that "Edward" -- trick played by a mind deteriorating with age, I guess.)
