Cart ahead of the horse; What was Saddam going to do with yellowcake?
At the time of the invasion, his "nukular" program merely consisted of a 12-year-old centrifuge, buried in an Iraqi scientist's garden.

Yet, per Republican talking-points, British intel was proven correct (and Joe Wilson is full of shite) about Iraq's attempt at acquiring yellowcake uranium from Niger.

I'm not going to accuse Saddam of being smart, but wouldn't any yokel think it prudent, to first get your clandestine uranium enrichment program up and running, before discussing and acquiring components, through international channels?

2. This was while they were claiming there was an advanced
nuclear program buried in tunnels, or in some fertilizer factory.

It was part of *that* lie.

3. Saddam was SO far away from making nukes.
-He had no source of uranium
-He had no processing capability to make any significant amount of fissionable material
-He had no research facilities in place to engineer, test or manufacture a bomb
-He had no reactor as an alternative "breeder reactor"

and finally,

-He had no method of delivering any kind of bomb with the US Air Force flying daily over his country, the US Navy patrolling his coast and jjust about every listening and imaging device in the US arsenal watching his every move.

So, again, what was the danger?

8. The danger
was that we might run out of oil, and he was an easy, and particularly disliked old buddy that we had to get rid of at this time. To save the family business of course...

Until bush didn't even bother oredering the site secured. Or the al QaaQaa site secured. Or any other known and UN-monitored sites. Which were then all looted. Thanks to bush.
