KUCINICH - 254 BILLION DOLLAR BOMBSHELL!
Dennis Kucinich last night revealed that congressmen each receives a special security report that told them to stay the course in Iraq. Be prepared to spend $254 Billion over 5 years!

And one of the authors of the document was General Wesley Clark!

Non wonder he showed such an interest in running all of a sudden when it was clear that Chimpy was toast.

$254 billion is quite a bit more than $87 billion isn't it?

4. saw it on TV on the debate
He mentioned "General Clark should know about this as he helped write it" and the camera cut to Clark.

#3. What specifically did Clark contribute? YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA
#4. What was Clark's capacity/role in contributing to this document? YOU HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA

2. Clark ... I knew it
Something about this guy turns my stomach inside out - call it an instinct, whatever.

Leave it up to Dennis Kucinich to point out this next level of oncoming fraud for he is the real and only man for the job!

7. Yeah DK gets some big points for this one...
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 02:16 PM by TLM

However I would point out that just because clark was one of the memo authors... that doesn't mean he had any say on setting the policy.

As far as we know Clark's role could have been to say that this war is going to cost 250 billion in the long run. Or that this would be a long drawn out and costly action... we don't know if his role was to warn of these problems or to encourage this policy.

Either way though, Kucinich is back up there on my list. I still want Dean for president, but I want to see DK tapped either for VP, or pehaps Graham or Edwards tapped for VP, and DK appointed as head of the department of peace or perhaps sec of labor.

Maybe Clark as sec of defense...

9. whoa you changed for the good
Well if Dean is in fact the president and Kucinich remains a congressman lets hope that he would push it with him. Well thanks for seeing the big picture.

15. I like Kucinich... he has good ideas, but he is an idea man.

He is not one who I think would be able to get elected in the first place, and if by some perfect storm chance in hell he did win, he'd not be able to enact most of his ideas and goals.

That is exactly what I really like about Dean is that he's the kind of guy who can figure out a way to get stuff done, he's a passionate realist, not an ineffectual idealist. He can get things done, and frankly pragmatic progress is much more important to me than idealistic failure.

I got a chance to talk with Joe Conason the other night about this and he said something that I thought was really spot on... the right has spent 20-30 years inching this government to the right, like some giant boulder. The idea that someone can simply pick that thing up and in one election take it back to where it was is foolish. We as dems have to start inching that boulder back.

Kucinich is trying to pick the boulder up and carry it back to the left... Dean is trying to get tons of people to all push back to start that boulder moving back to the left. That’s the difference between idealism and pragmatism... Kucinich's methods, I fear would result in a lot of strain and a lot of noise, but no real movement or change. Whereas Dean's methods would make less noise and would make for much less of a show, but I think it would set that boulder in motion and lay the groundwork to keep moving it over time, even more effectively than the republicans have.

The key to moving anything heavy is to reduce resistance. Dean reduces resistance via his pragmatic moderate approach. Kucinich creates resistance by trying to be so absolute and so far left of most folks.

I like that Kucinich is in the race because he gives voice to things that the others can't really say. Kucinich and Sharpton are like the drunk uncles at the family reunion who are pissing everybody off because they're telling the truth and letting family secrets slip.

But I wouldn’t want DK as president… not just because I think he’d be ineffectual, and divisive, but because he’s also too religious for me. I do not like super religious folks leading the country… I’m just personally not comfortable with that.

But I would like to see him in some roll where he can present his ideas and policy to the Whitehouse and the public effectively because he does have some great ideas.

18. well this is still good
Because you really have been critical of him in the past. I think it would be a victory if he got the party moving left even if he doesnt win the primary and a cabinet position would be grand. Glad to see you had a change of heart. I understand your view on religion, I come from a not so religious family well my parents arent but their parents. Well glad to see that you realized how much this kicks ass he brought this up.

5. There's already a thread on this topic
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=408436&mesg_id=408436

And you've already contributed to that thread, so you can't claim ya didn't know about it.

Why flood the forum with the same topic? There's already an on-going discussion on this matter.

And what's the big deal about attempting to figure out the longterm costs of a rebuilding plan? Until the UN steps in - WHICH IS WHAT CLARK HAS ADVOCATED - congress SHOULD be told how much the occupation is gonna cost and how long it's gonna take.

Geezus. Get a grip.

6. Plus...couldn't we make the case that Gen. Clark was telling the truth...
About the cost of the Iraq effort all along, unlike Dub, Grumpy Rummy & Co., who have obviously been LYING about it all along? x(

10. Yeah that's my question....

What was his roll as an author of this... was Clark giving the bad news about the costs or was he part of trying to push bad policy.

It is possible I think that Clark could say that this war will cost a lot and take a long time... then that info goes in the memo saying please stick with this and be ready to spend a lot. That doesn't mean Clark supported the end push of the memo for spending a lot and getting into a long drawn out war... it could just mean that he was the source for some of the info.

But the point is we don't know because this guy is so wet behind the ears politically. We do not know where he stands and that's a bad thing. Let Clark serve in some office and establish a record of where he stands before he asked for the highest office in the land.

8. Well... no.
"$254 billion is quite a bit more than $87 billion isn't it?"

If the 87B is supposed to be for the next 15 months, than 254 is a bit less than the $348B they would spend over five years at the same pace.

Of course, they had better not be spending $6B/month in Iraq five years from now because it will mean that Shrub was re-appointed! I doubt Dean?Clark/Kerry/Gore/Clinton/whoever will be spending too much on the effort.

11. I really hope people will start to
examine Kucinich closely and support him. HIS is the kind of integrity and vision we need in the White House to turn this country around!

We have "drifted" so far to the right that only by turning left can we even get anywhere near the center.

KUCINICH 2004!

PEACE & TRUTH 2004!

12. No surprise...expect higher than that, even.
Why?

Bernie Ward (KGO) mentioned last night that we also assume Iraq's 200 BILLION DOLLAR FOREIGN DEBT. Yep, it's all ours folks.

Nice to look at,
Nice to hold,
If you break it,
It is sold...

Makes me want to sob.

21. General Anthony Zinni discussed Iraqi rebuild plans on "Nightline"
with Ted Koppel. It is standard proceedure for military brass to plan for a rebuild of a country in the event of a war.
