I don't want a national ID card. Identity cards will not stop terrorism, and yet they are talking about this in the face of the London bombings. Like you guys we are now being faced with constant fear being spun from the right.

As far as I know --if the figure is roughly 50-50 pro-con re. national IDs in Australia, then that is lower than the support for them here. Does anyone have any idea of how Americans are leaning on this after the London bombings?

Please let us know if they get them through in Australia, foreigncorrespondent. I realize that you are suffering with your own rightwing moment over there. I doubt it has gotten to the nightmare stage as it has here, but I know there are some parallels.
