Poll question: Ok, what should it be called? (Rove treason, Plame affair, etc)

I'm on record, rather tediously by now I guess, as being fed up with calling every scandal Whatever-gate. Actually, this one is the first since Iran-Contra that actually deserves (if that's the word) comparison with Watergate since if there were a God in heaven it would provoke a genuine constitutional crisis. With all three branches of government in the hands of the GOP, however, it will more probably just provoke a round of belly laughs out at the country club, but that's for another post. This was inspired by an earlier thread today, by the way; most of the suggestions came from that one.

understand that there's a scandal involving the Whitehouse and an act of treason-"-gate" is now synonymous with "Whitehouse scandal".

They don't know who Plame is, and if someone tells them there's a "scandal" involving such a person, they are just as likely to imagine an affair or embezzlement scheme as much as anything else. Communicating that a crime involving the Whitehouse (and treason)has occurred is important, as few Americans pay less than half as much attention to the news as an average DUer.

The media's fixation since 1974 with tacking "-gate" onto everything has just cheapened the whole notion of what constitutes a scandal. She's the **victim** (as well as the rest of the country). This can be called whatever the fuck ya wanna call it ... except the 'Plame Affair" Mrs. Wilson did NOT have an affair. She did NOT cause this to happen. She is NOT a part of this.

I'm VERY angry about this whole thing. If it were my call it would be the Karl Rove is a Motherfucking Traitor Scandal.

and I suspect it was mostly against Wilson anyway. Rove's vendetta probably better conveys what needs to be conveyed, and makes absolutely clear where the blame should fall.

Where I most agree with you is this: that the best we can go with -- based on what we know now -- is "Vendetta against Plame" in the first reference (probably reduced to "Vendetta vs. Plame" to fit the head-count), then "Plame Vendetta" in all subsequent references.

(Vendetta vs. Plame counts 16 as compared to 21 for Vendetta against Plame. Am I, as I suspect, speaking one editor to another?)

It needs to be defined so that it includes a hierarchy of what it is related to.

The one who did the bad thing should be in the title. If victim is in the title it makes it about "them" this is not about Plame. It's all about Bu$h Co. and/or Mr. Rove destroying a functional covert operation that was in pursuit of illegal WMD sales in the Middle East and Africa. The obvious question is whose team are they on? The next is. What value is this kind of destructive behavior?

I don't think we should tie it to Rove, because I don't think it'll stop there. I think this is going to involve the entire admin. before it's over. Since this Admin, has had sooo many scandals, almost since 2000, I suggest SCANDALGATE! The addition of GATE gets everyone to recognize the link to the likes of Watergate, and the scandal perfectly describes the conditions.
