I just joined the Ohio Democratic Party
And now I want to work for them. I'm sick and tired of reading stories about corporations going bankrupt and the CEO magically gets millions of dollars while the average person gets zilch.

I want to fight them and I know that the Far Right is doing this too, so I want to fight them to.

I'm new to this, how do I get a voice in the Democratic Party?

2. Find out when your local Democratic Executive Committee meets...
in your county. Go to the meetings. You can have a voice there. Elections will come around, and you can run for a position on the executive committee.

Each precinct has representatives on the Executive Committee of your county. If you don't know who to contact in your county to find out meeting times, look on the internet and find out who the state chair is, and call his office and ask for information.

Congratulations to you for wanting to play a role. Change begins at the grass roots, and attending meetings and eventually being a member of the committee is a great way to start.

4. I have family in Ohio who say the party there is in disarray.
Organize your own group of people. See if you can start a Democratic club. Make sure you comply with McCain Feingold. If you want information on how to organize, check with the state committee, national committee and Democracy for America, which is a great resource on how to organize a local group and a great support organization.

I don't know how much we out here in California can help you, but our California Democratic Party is well organized. You might check the California Democratic Party website and contact someone in our state party to learn how they organize activities in our state.

McCain Feingold makes grass-roots political activity a little more difficult. You can't just get active and collect money. You have to keep track of and report donations and have a certain minimum organization. The good side of McCain Feingold is that it forces you to think about what you are doing, your aims and procedures. That makes you better organized.

6. Are you any where near Cincinnatti
An election is coming up in a couple of weeks and the Democratic candidate Paul Hackett could use some help.

Maybe if you volunteer for that campaign, the people there will be able to give you advice on where to go next after the election

7. also, I see you're in Columbus.
If you're around OSU you should check out student organizations too or depending on your long-term goals check out an internship at the state house.

9. Now join your local and county dem parties too.
Find out your precinct chair is and give them a call. Volunteering will give you some positive exposure, the party always can use some helping hands.

Politics is a game of networking. Just balance it with the need for a life besides politics. I'm told I am one dimensional, so the caveat is one I hear. But if now isn't a time for alarm and action, I don't know when would be.
