How I came to DU- Twice (warning: essay)
My daughter, Faith, and son-in-law, Ben, were visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov-1999. Ben stayed up most of the night to hear the results of the presidential election. When I went to bed that night, Al Gore had been elected president.

I awoke the next morning to discover that Gjr had usurped the White House. I have rarely been so depressed in my life.

Ben brought me to DU then. And I lurked for a few hours. I saw that everyone here was as bewildered as I was. None of us had any idea what to do. And the pain I felt was horrendous.

Four years. Katherine Harris was an anomaly. Such a thing couldn¡¦t happen again. So just tune this out for 4 years and this nightmare will come to an end, I thought.

So I stopped coming to DU and I forgot that such a community ever was. I turned on R.L. and listened to Laura Schlessinger. And I could pretend that I was getting all the news I needed from Rush. I could wait this one out.

And I did.

Flash forward Oct-2003. Faith and Ben are visiting again. Ben, seeing I needed an education, brought me back to DU. And I was here with T-I-A and so many others, while we witnessed exit poll results altered, in front of our eyes.

Exit Katherine Harris.

Enter Kenneth Blackman.

And here we grieved together for the death of our democratic system. And we grieve together for the soldiers who won¡¦t come back home. ever. And we grieve for Andy. together.

And we will rise up together to return our country to the people, by which the United States of America is governed.

ƒÞ Our government of the People, for the People, by the People

I¡¦m back at DU and ¡K This time ¡K this time I¡¦m staying.

(Names have been changed.)

3. Yeah!
I wish I would have been a part of DU during the 04 campaign. More specifically, following the first debate! My God, I can't believe following that pathetic performance that * pulled it off! Why? Why? How...how did this happen?
