8. This is a new book she's working on.
You're right. Bushworld is already published. I'm about half finished with it. Interesting book...it starts with her pieces from 1992 and ends with a piece from June 2004.

13. How is that book? I really like her even if I don't agree with everything
she says. She seems to take an even-handed approach to everything she writes.

14. I've enjoyed it so far.
It's interesting to read her thoughts written as the events happened. I enjoy her sense of humor also!

2. Who Cares?
All she does is belittle pretty much everything.

5. C-spn was at the book expo the other day
Penquin Books had exhibits of books coming out and Maureen, who did well with " Bushworld" is doing one that I think is called "Are Men Necessary" or something like that. Franken is working on one as well.

9. No, sweetie - it IS named for a wife of a Republican pres., after all.
If you don't like Dowd, state some specific facts why. You're new to DU. We do get posters who libel, but they don't last long. Your slip is showing. Pink?

12. I'm a big Dowd fan.
It was a joke.

She seems to kind of live on the emotional edge.

16. since when was Maureen Dowd a liberal darling?
she's a hateful blob of spittle with a whiny voice, both in real life and in a literary sense. Ugh.

Ask Al Gore about Maureen Dowd!

18. Dowd is no friend of progressives
Here are some of her "writings" to muse over:

All Shook Up (Dig at Bill, Hill, Al and Tipper)
http://www.nytimes.com/library/opinion/dowd/081600dowd.html

Hillary and Bill, the Tin Cup Couple
http://www.nytimes.com/2000/09/24/opinion/24DOWD.html

and probably her worst piece of vitriol against Gore:

His Lyin', Sighin' Heart
http://www.nytimes.com/2000/10/11/opinion/11DOWD.html

Dowd's writing style is Tasmanian Devil-esque. She'll attack anything, just because it's there.

7. On leave for a new book
Sarah Vowell has been writing a few in her spot, good stuff. I'm in love with Maureen Dowd BTW.

10. I'm in love with Sarah Vowell.
I've bought three of her books in the past few months - so I couldn't be happier with NYT's choice of her to fill in.

15. I'm in love with Sarah Vowell, too, but
I think the op-ed page in the Times is the wrong place for her. SHe needs a place that is more funky and roomy. That should be a take-no-prisoners column, at least to the extent the Times is capable.

I'd rather hear more quirky and historical narratives from Sarah Vowell...
