Interesting theory on C-Span
There have been 2 callers, one yesterday and one today, who have said that the London bombers thought they were recruited to be part of the practice terror exercise and didn't know the explosives in their backpacks were real (which would explain why suicide bombers might have timers). Where did this theory come from? I think the callers were both Dems, so where are they getting this and why haven't I seen something about this here. Did I miss it?

4. That may be what has people speculating.
It's a really intriguing theory. I wish I knew where it started because the callers didn't say.

3. hadn't heard that, but it makes sense
considering how alert britons generally are, after 30 or so years of IRA bombings, it would be a surprise for four left bags on the Underground or bus not to raise any suspicions. given the timing with which they went off - all within a minute or so of each other - it would seem very likely that timers and not human-operated detonator switches were used. since one of the reasons to use suicide bombers is to remove the complexity of the timed detonators, it would be quite unlikely that suicide bombs would be set off by timers. so if individuals were still carrying the bombs at the time they went off, it does make a great deal of sense to consider the possibility that believed they were carrying out some sort of "test run" and were unaware they had live bombs with them that detonated remotely.

11. Here's one more that's quite interesting
Does saying "I don't know who did it" make someone a conspiracy theorist"?

9. Dr. Robert Pape is on now.
Author of "Dying to Win: The Secret Logic of Suicide Terrorism" is on now. He is taking a position very similat to Michael Scheuer's. The republican callers are freaking out.

EXCLUSIVE: WAS IT SUICIDE?
Why did they buy return train tickets to Luton? Why did they buy pay & display tickets for cars? Why were there no usual shouts of 'Allah Akhbar'? Why were bombs in bags and not on their bodies?
By Jeff Edwards

Police and MI5 are probing if the four men were told by their al-Qaeda controller they had time to escape after setting off timers. Instead, the devices exploded immediately.

A security source said: "If the bombers lived and were caught they'd probably have cracked. Would their masters have allowed that to happen? We think not."

The evidence is compelling: The terrorists bought return rail tickets, and pay and display car park tickets, before boarding _ a train at Luton for London. None of the men was heard to cry "Allah Akhbar!" - "God is great" - usually screamed by suicide bombers as they detonate their bomb.
