Plame as much as or more of a target than Wilson?
http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/

"But this is less about Wilson than his wife and her job, where she reportedly opposed the assessments of the Office of Special Plans. So what better way to discrete her by acting as if this is just an attack on her husband through her. It was a bit more than that, which is why Porter Goss is not throwing roadblocks in the way of this. He's not exactly been popular in the Agency, but this is a very big deal.

Why? Because this involves National Security in the adult, serious, way. The fact that this happened, the way this happened, someone will be made to pay."

I think Steve meant to say discredit rather than discrete; he typos a lot.

1. Plame had a say in OSP?
If only the media would start asking questions about OSP. I bet most people don't even know about it.

2. Her analysis was probably at odds...
with what OSP wanted to hear. It just hadn't occurred to me before that smearing Wilson might just be an excuse to take out Plame as a serious CIA player.

3. It's A Silly Shell Game
The more I hear the GOOP talking heads attempt to discredit Plame and keep the focus on both Wilsons...who they were, why they were, who sent them, blah blah blah, the more I'm convinced there's one hell of a big bombsell about to blow.

This is a trial in the court of public opinion and, yes, the Wilsons are on trial...actually they're convicted...the corporate media is graciously giving Joe Wilson the chance to plead his innocence in the hopes of hanging him with his own words. It's all a waste of time as this isn't what Fitzgerald's investigation is about...or the parts that are being tossed around have minimal impact.

As Lawrence O'Donnell said, for this invetigation to go forward, one of the first witnesses would have to have been from the CIA who would have had to verify both Plame and Wilson's status. Since the case has moved on...and one judge has gone as far as to call this a "plot against Wilson", there's indications this story will turn from a look at the Wilsons to a look at this regime. The wingnut spinners are trying to get as many shots in (just like Pete King has said) and either muddy the whole story or bore people from paying attention.

4. Good post. Let's hope the people ar epaying attention.
Plame and theo others were right about the lack of WMD threat, but Bush wanted hsi war. So now they are blamed and called unpatriotic for falling into lockstep with these evil bastards. Freepers want her prosecuted for bucking the BA.

5. Stay On The Ball
Soon it won't be the question about the intel Wilson went to get. It's status isn't questioned and even Wilson's finding aren't (there are others who were sent who came to the same conclusion). This is going to turn on why would someone want to expose Plame's status and use it to discredit Wilson. This has nothing to do with 90% of what is being currently spun.

The worm turns as the investigation focuses on who the REAL source of the leak is (everyone named so far is a "subject") and the reasons this person would have for doing so (movtive and opportunity). It's a classic conspiracy case and the byproduct could be this regime's entire Iraq lie being put on trial.

Stay tuned...

6. I just keep wondering...
was this a backhand slap at Wilson which has turned out to be very damaging, or a serious whack at Plame because she was fighting them where they cared most; on their faulty justification for the war. Maybe Wilson is more of a McGuffin than Frank Rich thinks.

7. It's "Attack Mode"
Watch...you'll see the same demonization of Pat Fitzgerald if he brings an indictment. He'll be their Ken Starr incarnate. Forget that he's a lifelong Repugnican...he, too is part of some evil "left wing/media" plot to "bring down the president".

It's the same song and dance this mob uses to slime anyone who speaks out against them. Hit them early with everything and anything...eventually one big lie will congeal and stick. Look at what they did to Richard Clarke or Paul O'Neill.

The pattern is obvious.

Cheers...
