Congressman Threatens Islamic Holy Sites

DENVER - A Colorado congressman told a radio show host that the U.S. could "take out" Islamic holy sites if Muslim fundamentalist terrorists attacked the country with nuclear weapons.

Rep. Tom Tancredo made his remarks Friday on WFLA-AM in Orlando, Fla. His spokesman stressed he was only speaking hypothetically.

Talk show host Pat Campbell asked the Littleton Republican how the country should respond if terrorists struck several U.S. cities with nuclear weapons.

"Well, what if you said something like — if this happens in the United States, and we determine that it is the result of extremist, fundamentalist Muslims, you know, you could take out their holy sites," Tancredo answered.

"You're talking about bombing Mecca," Campbell said.

"Yeah," Tancredo responded.

If anyone is so stupid as to nuke or otherwise destroy Mecca, here's what's going to happen:

1. Those living in Mecca and those performing the hajj in Mecca will be mourned, celebrated, agonized over, and chronicled like no other victimized ethnic or religious group in modern history. Even the remembrance of the Holocaust victims will pale in comparison.

2. After some squabbling between Shi'a, Sunni, and Druse Muslims over who was most neglectful in protecting Mecca from the infidels, the entire Middle East, North Africa, and parts of southeast Asia will unite as a great Muslim confederacy, complete with nuclear weapons, an advanced navy, and consolidated energy resources. There will even be talk of a revived Caliphate.

3. The United States, Great Britain, and India will all suffer devastating attacks, most likely involving WMDs. Kashmir will fall under the complete control of Pakistan, even engaging Chinese soldiers in fierce fighting over their portion of the region.

4. World War III. No elaboration necessary.
