I have some inside information on a certain Republican Congressperson...
This information is private and would violate their civil rights if I let it be known.

I would never disclose what I know, but this person is just as much responsible for Bush, and what he's done to the country, as anyone.

I know it will drive some of you crazy that I do not tell, but I am no Karl Rove. It just drives me crazy that I can not tell anyone.

What should I do? If the information came out on it's own, it would really hurt this person.

Write down the information as you understand it.
Put the notes in an envelope and seal it.

30. Wait I just read your post again. Let me ask you a question...
Is the person in question "evil" because of the private information you have on him or her? Or is it just something that's like of a medical situation or of a sexual preference situation. If it's the latter two, then maybe you should just forget about it. However, if it's something that adds to that person's "evilness", then by all means make sure the truth is leaked out.

39. Not necessarily, but it might be "pulling our chains" which is
just as bad. Then again, the OP might sincerely be asking for our guidance, too.

If the info on this mysterious person is such that it relates to a medical problem or a sexual preference issue, then it should be kept private.

If the info is such that it is something politically evil this mysterious person has done, then it should by all means be leaked, so as to help our cause.

"I heard it from so-and-so" is hearsay - it's worthless as information, and anyone dumb enough to repeat such trivia will come out looking like an airhead. Anyone who expects us to believe FOAF "information" is also arrogant to boot. This is how the most malicious whispering campaigns gain support.

I'm appalled at the number of people here who have used the old "well, the other side does it" rationalization. It's something that has always bothered me about DU. It's petty and childish, and it automatically invalidates any claims one might have to ethical behavior.

Because we don't go Rove on their asses. I'm talking about election fixing in the states where our people are in power, race baiting, gay bashing, starting rumors about candidates AND their families (even their under aged 18 children) and planting evidence.

Frankly, I want the Democratic Party to start doing these things because they have to be done for the good of the nation.

It's all fine to say that we won't "stoop to their level", but we'll have to do it from the outside looking in.

49. Is the information about an aspect of this person's private life
that has bearing on Republican public policy? In other words, is the information you have about something the person does in private that his or her public acts seek to punish? The most obvious example is closet homosexual behavior from someone who sponsors or votes for or speaks on behalf of anti-gay and lesbian legislation. It seems legitimate to out someone who is that kind of a hypocrite.

On the other hand, if this person's private behavior is not criminal, hypocritical or unethical and has no bearing on the fact of the Republicans' total control of government, then it seems unethical to me to spill it. But if it's any of the above, lay it on us.

74. If you read the entire thread, you will learn....
...that the OP learned this through a relative who is a nurse. From that, it is safe to assume that the condition is a medical matter. Privacy of medical conditions/records is protected by Federal law.

You remember that don't you? Its something Democrats fought for.

81. Thank you...
I now realize it was pretty stupid to start this thread, and I apologize for it. It was just eating me up inside and I needed to get it out.

I would love to reveal what I know, but it would hurt someone I love.

I just can't do it.

63. If it's violating their civil rights this could turn around and make you
look like a jerk. It depends on what you know and what kind of personal information you would be revealing...

If revealing this information would put you in a league with Karl Rove, I wouldn't go there.

78. As much as I would love
to see someone from the other side taken down, IF this involves a person's medical information and it was shared (illegally) by the nurse, I would keep it to myself for the sake of the nurse only. I know we tend to lose because of our higher standards, but I'd rather lose with dignity than win by the means they use.

79. The fascists have changed the rules of the game.
All bets are off. If we do not attack the fascists and remove them from power, there will no longer be any civil rights whatsoever by 2008.

If the USA is to survive as a democracy, we must think and act like an active and effective non-violent resistance movement.

Ten years ago, I would have said leave it be.

Now, it is your duty to expose this fascist.

85. If I can't trust a fellow Democrat to protect my civil and legal rights...
why should I ever vote for a Democrat again? Your urging of the OP to abet in a Federal crime is beyond the pale.

Thanks for the note of sanity.

80. Here's a practical thought.

You found out some information from a relative who is also a nurse, so I am assuming you do not want to break this relative's confidence. Obviously, you should not do that.

Now, is there *another* way that this information might get out? Brainstorm and think about it. What might it be? ;)

Edited --> I'll PM you the rest. ;)

84. I have some inside information on a certain Republican PRESIDENT
I have some inside information on a certain Republican VICE PRESIDENT
I have some inside information on a certain Republican PRESIDENT
I have some inside information on a certain Republican ADVISOR
I have some inside information on a certain Republican CABINET MEMBER
I have some inside information on a certain Republican LEADER
I have some inside information on a certain Republican CONGRESSMAN

This information is private and would violate their civil rights if I let it be known.
