We are one species among many. And, not even a particularly "successful" one considering how long we've been around compared to the lowly sponges.
We live on an insignificant planet circling a mediocre star in a minor galaxy circling a black hole of no particular celebrity, in a universe of billions of other galaxies.
Yet, "God", in his/her/it's infinite wisdom has singled us out to carry forward *HIS* great mission.
Thus, the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, Author of all things, instructs Eric Rudolph to blow up people. Islamic fundamentalists kill thousands in *HIS* name. Jews serve God by killing Palestinians. Catholics by knocking off Protestants and vice versa. And, the list goes bloodily on.
So, I have a few questions:
1. Why did *God* choose us to do *HIS* dirty work? Fleas and mosquitoes are more efficient but I haven't heard that they invoke *HIS* holy name when spreading plague or malaria.
2. Does "rebellion against God", therefore signify a refusal to kill?
3. Why do otherwise sensible people "Thank God!" when some scientist like Walter Reed or Jonas Salk finds a way to interfere with *HIS* creations?
4. Finally, why would any God, worthy of the name, give a rip about we pipsqueaks of the universe do, think, or believe?
Of course I'm sure that Eric Rudolph and the other proud servants who murder, torture, enslave, and generally make life ugly, have the answer.
