Did Gwen Ifill on The NewsHour just say she is giving Mehlman
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 05:34 PM by Ilsa
50 minutes* of the NewsHour to spout his lies? What the hell is going on? Why are they lettinghim have "an interview"? This is such bullshit. The Corp for Public Broadcasting is already in heavy-duty control. Crap, they put Lehrer back on vacation already.

*Okay, 50 minutes is an exaggeration.

2. Lehrer is on a book tour
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 05:40 PM by Moochy
I saw him on CSPAN briefly last nite at a bookfair.

The Franklin Affair ? I think thats the title.

An interesting tidbit from that Cspan filming of his book signing:
Lehere gave words of encouragement to a woman who obviously didnt like what the RW did to Joe Wilson and Dan Rather, Lehrer said , "I think we'll be alright, and you know why? Cuz there are alot more of people like you out there than they there are of them."

50 minutes though? really ? I'm disgustipated by such a tawdry stenography to the power that PBS has become.

PBS Newshour never met a conservative think tank that it didn't love.

edited for clarity?

7. I'm sorry. I wish we had a smilie for hyperbole,
but I didn't think "sarcasm" was the right word for it. No, it isn't really 50 minutes, but it is their "Newsmaker Interview", which is a longer segment, and more time than Mehlman should have to tell lies to the public.

4. Putting Mehlman on TV is like saying...
"we've given up on reporting so the next segment is going to be recycled propaganda, stay tuned."

6. This only proves what a bomb he was on Meet The Press
Now he's having to do damage control -- on PBS, of all places. I now expect their "fair and balanced" ombudsman to require them to have Howard Dean on later this week.

5. There have been several LONG interviews of RWers
over the past week (or so) on The News Hour. And there's been no one representing the other side.

8. Newshour feedback Contact , for what it' worth
Edited on Mon Jul-18-05 06:13 PM by Moochy
Feedback for Newshour: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/letters.html

I sent them this:

You gave Ken Mehlman a large amount of time this monday, please show some balance and get Larry Johnson on to analyze the political spin the republican national chair is weaving.

True patriots can take the truth. Call these politicos out for their blatant lies, and misdirection.

How about a profile of the prosecutor Fitzgerald?

Thanks,
A concerned viewer

9. Ifill mentioned at the start of the interview that this one is the
counter to the time they gave Haward Dean last month.

I noticed she didn't correct Mehlman when he knowingly mislead the viewers about Wilson's comment last week that Plame wasn't covert. he didn;t bother to say that his statement was clarified later as "Plame wasn't covert any longer because Novak outed her."

10. I detest Gwen Ifill. And I've said so before on DU. And people come
out of the woodwork and defend her.

Once again I will say, GWEN IFILl is not a friend to democrats. She's Cond's friend? Gosh, I would have thought they were twins. Same arrogant attitude, same ability to lie through their teeth without a qualm. What I have never understood is what in the hell would make two educated black women support these people? Being a woman, and being black, one would think that they would have sympathy for the people who are getting hurt the most by this administration.

Why are they this way?

15. Mehlman said: "Wilson's column full of errors"
Why the hell didn't Ifill ask him: "Can you point out which specific errors?" Instead, she just let that slide.

When, oh when, are we going to pin Mehlman down and ask him WHAT errors were in Wilson's column?
