I'm not so sure it's a new meme or if the talking points were intended to confuse people, because they're so patently false they won't stand up to ANY debate whatsoever. ...but NOT by the standard garden-variety freepers. I think it's being freeped by the people who designed the poll!

I took it when I logged onto AOL earlier, and I was struck by that third option on the first question, "It's too confusing to say."

Does that strike anyone else as a very odd way of wording it? Most polls measure degree of guilt, i.e. "He did something very wrong; hee did something wrong," etc.

Anyway, my immediate take on it was that this poll is intended to measure the "success" of last week's talking points. The obvious intention was to CONFUSE the folks who haven't been paying attention and are just now tuning in, as a way of defusing their outrage. All the b.s. we've been hearing from the right-wing talking heads was with that purpose. The idea that there was "a real question" about Valerie Plame's covert status is total bullshit to anyone who thinks about it for even 30 seconds. If there were any question about her status, WHY appoint a special prosecutor and hold a grand jury investigation in the first place?

I almost posted a new thread with the heading "DU this weird poll" but I see now it would have been a duplicate. But that third option still strikes me as very strange and almost sinister.

How about a little sand (or mud)in the eyes of the people to mask the truth? Last week AOL was the first poll to ask bluntly 'Should Rove be fired?' Yes or No option...It was so unusual for AOL! And they must not have liked the results because the response was greater than 90% 'yes' with ?90,000? or so total votes. I did start a thread at the end of last week (before the talking points this weeekend) that questioned the MSNBC, CNN, and AOL poll's choice of wording the questions. AOL's poll, at that time, was the most straightforward, and the most revealing.

98. I think you're right that AOL didn't like the results of their first poll.

I did all of them but couldn't remember which was which. As you said, AOL's poll was the most direct and also got the highest numbers of "Yes" answers to the question "Should Karl Rove be fired?" The Repukes went into full panic mode at the thought of all those soccer moms rioting in the streets, because it's really NOT a "confusing" issue at all. So they did their best to make it one by throwing up a smokescreen of distractions and disinformation.

It has only strengthened my resolve not to be distracted from this issue by the Supreme Court nomination or anything else short of a mushroom cloud in the immediate vicinity.

Although maybe that could be arranged too...I wouldn't put anything past 'em.

Interesting and new to me was the comment in Cooper's Time article that most of the grand jurors were black and disproportionately women. Seems like good news to me. Don't think this demographic would put up with much shit from the WH. Generalizing, of course.
