Wilson was asked by Blitzer on CNN why he and his wife were seen in public after she was outed if she was covert and Wilson said "My wife was not a clandestine officer the day that Bob Novak blew her identity." His statement was easily misinterpreted, but taken in context what he was saying was that "From the moment Novak blew her identity her role as a clandestine officer was over"
