First Charges Against Saddam Sound Familiar
USA TODAY
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/iraq/2005-07-17-saddam-charges_x.htm

Raid Juhi, chief judge of the Iraqi Special Tribunal, said Sunday that the former dictator will first face charges for the 1982 massacre of Shiite villagers in Dujail, 40 miles north of Baghdad.

Saddam's security forces executed dozens of Shiite men and boys in Dujail in retaliation for a failed assassination attempt in which gunmen fired on his convoy as it passed through town.

More than 100 others were jailed and executed years later, according to the tribunal's Web site.

Bush calls Saddam 'the guy who tried to kill my dad'

Houston is the adopted hometown of the president's father, former President Bush, and in discussing the threat posed by Saddam, the current president offered his staple list of complaints about Iraq's defiance of the United Nations . . .

He said the Iraqi leader's "hatred" was largely directed at the United States and added: "After all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad."

Tens of thousands of innocents killed, partially in retaliation for a failed assassination attempt on Bush's dad. It gets harder and harder to distinguish our own country's actions from those of the ones our government calls the enemy.

1. Didn't this group try to assinate Saddam at the US request?
Then we didn't back them up?

I'm not supporting Saddam at all, and would never do so. I do have to ask though, "What would the US do if several huundred people tried to assinate Shrub in one of his motorcades? Not recommending it, you understand, but what do you think would happen? Wouldn't they all be dead????

That actually sounds like a dumb charge to start this trial with.

3. The whole trial is a charade.
One that even the best 20th century writers could conjure up in a day.

This is a joke of a trial, but what can one expect. Perhaps, Bush and Co. will finally be implicated by testimony.

If Saddam is going down then he should take the whole Cabal with him.

4. We are holding US citizens without a trial for fighting against the US
Is that any less than what Saddam did during his reign. Didn't his guys just pick up people off the streets who had taken part in uprising agianst his government and throw them in jail without trials?

5. the moral line that may have once separated us from Saddam is evaporating
Overall, we must certainly resemble, and even rival, the debauchary, terror, and violent reprisals of the last regime in Iraq.
