Saddam's security forces executed dozens of Shiite men and boys in Dujail in
retaliation for a failed assassination attempt in which gunmen fired on his convoy as it passed through town.
More than 100 others were jailed and executed years later, according to the tribunal's Web site.

Bush calls Saddam 'the guy who tried to kill my dad'
Houston is the adopted hometown of the president's father, former President Bush, and in discussing the threat posed by Saddam, the current president offered his staple list of complaints about Iraq's defiance of the United Nations . . .
He said the Iraqi leader's "hatred" was largely directed at the United States and added:
"After all, this is the guy who tried to kill my dad." http://archives.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/09/27/bush.war.talk/ Tens of thousands of innocents killed, partially in retaliation for a failed assassination attempt on Bush's dad. It gets harder and harder to distinguish our own country's actions from those of the ones our government calls the enemy.
