Are you guilty of holding different Democrats to different standards? why?
For example, do you give certain Democrats a free pass when it comes to past actions (i.e., war vote), while ripping a new hole into another Democrat who did the same thing? I admit, I am guilty of this because I do have my favorites. It just seems as though some Senators are treated more harshly than others, like Obama for instance.

1. Not really, they're all sucking.
They cowtow to the republicans on everything except social security, but then again the people are mostly fighting for that one.

2. Who exactly are the "they" you are talking about?
You can paint about 10-12 Democratic senators as being consistent "waverers" on certain issues, but there is a core that have maintained unity on just about every vote. I'm not comfortable with the broad brush your statement implies.

4. My broad brush statement is correct....
with the exception of Howard Dean and Henry Waxman, they are always -

- apologizing for saying bad things about the republicans (boohoo!)

- supporting the war in Iraq because they don't want to be seen not supporting the troops.

- supporting bills that hurt the populace like the bankruptcy bill

- making awful judicial deals that favor the republicans.

and on and on and on.....

If Rove is free of charges in the next couple of months, I hope you join me and get yourself a broad brush too.

:)

5. Waxman? I guess you need to broaden that brush a bit more....
Seems he voted to authorize troops in Iraq.

3. I don't know about a free pass
But yeah this is sort of normal; it's human nature. If you like someone, you automatically assume the best about them; if they do something wrong, you assume there's a good reason.

By the same token if a person presents an argument you agree with, even if their particular arguemnt is illogical or poorly thought out, you will generally go along with it.

7. Yeah, because it seems the overall picture is more important
I could forgive Gephardt's support for the Iraq War more because on issues like trade and labor he was still a liberal, and even progressive, Democrat. His stance on otehr issues also made it easier to believe that he supported the war because he actually believed it was the right thing to do.
