What Do You Think Was The Most UNDER-REPORTED Story Last Week?
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 08:29 AM by DistressedAmerican
IMO, Ken Mehlman going before the NAACP to openly admit that the Republican Party has engaged in race politics non-stop since the 1960's and are now ready to stop is mindblowing.

Any other week this may well have been swept under the rug but, with Rove squashing all competition, it never had a chance.

To me this story is freaking unbelievable. "RNC Chariman Admits Republican Racism!" That is a headline and a half!

RNC Chief to Say It Was 'Wrong' to Exploit Racial Conflict for Votes

By Mike Allen

Thursday, July 14, 2005; Page A04

It was called "the southern strategy," started under Richard M. Nixon in 1968, and described Republican efforts to use race as a wedge issue -- on matters such as desegregation and busing -- to appeal to white southern voters.

Ken Mehlman, the Republican National Committee chairman, this morning will tell the NAACP national convention in Milwaukee that it was "wrong."

"By the '70s and into the '80s and '90s, the Democratic Party solidified its gains in the African American community, and we Republicans did not effectively reach out," Mehlman says in his prepared text. "Some Republicans gave up on winning the African American vote, looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization. I am here today as the Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong."

So what else went under the radar? What else should DUers not forget about while we are enjoying the Rove-A-Thon that is taking place?

1. The most unbelievable thing is that they admitted it!
How is the African American community reacting to this announcement, and its lack of coverage in the MSM?

3. That the London bombers may have been
That the London bombers may have been thwarted if a "leaker" in the Bush administration hadn't screwed up an ongoing and apparently fruitful investigation last year.

This ABC article mentions the connection to Khan, but conspicuously leaves out the events that led to the arrests last year - the premature collapse of an ongoing investigation.

6. Yeah, they admitted it
But they had no choice. Since w, their base has been steadily eroding. They need to replace those who are leaving the party in droves.

So how will they do this? By sucking up to Latinos and African-Americans, that's how.

Melhman didn't make a mistake. They played their hand beautifully. Humbly.

"Yeah, it's true. We had no use for you in the past, and we're sorry. But things have changed. Our base feels we've gone over the edge, that we no longer share their values. The lies that got us into Iraq, Terri Schaivo, karl rove, Social Security. The stubborn, cocky arrogance of george bush. All these things have been working against us. We can really use some help now. We see the error of our ways. We were wrong thinking that the Minority vote is bullshit. Now we care. Wont you please support us?"
