During the last days of Eight Years of Clinton/Gore:
Onehandle needs a new laptop.
1) Fills out a simple form, emails to boss's boss
2) Boss's boss forwards email with two words added "I approve."
3) Five days later new laptop is on desk

After Four Years of a Stellar Bush Economy:
Onehandle needs a new laptop.
1) New laptop was Pre-Approved for this fiscal year
2) Boss is required to confirm need to Finance/TS
3) Boss's boss is required to re-approve purchase.
Two simple words, "I approve."
4) Onehandle is required to fill out a Business Need form
5) Onehandle is required to bug Boss and Boss's Boss
for copy of their individual approvals that Finance/TS
ALREADY HAS and attach to New Business Need form
6) Two weeks go by
7) Finance flunky informs Onehandle that request is denied
by a Tech Support Lead in India..........INDIA!!!
8) Onehandle informs Boss and Boss's Boss
9) Boss's Boss informs Finance that purchase is in budget
10) Finance flunky informs Boss (Cc's head of Finance) that
all pre-approved capitol purchases are subject to denial
11) Boss's Boss is escalating the matter to her own Boss
12) Two weeks go by
13) Onehandle is asked Again by Finance/TS to submit Business Case
14) Onehandle is asked Again to provide approval from Boss's Boss
15) Two weeks go by
16) Onehandle emails finance flunky and asks about status
17) Finance Flunky says that decision will be made on Friday
18) Two weeks go by
19) Onehandle emails finance flunky and asks about status
20) No reply
21) A week later Onehandle sends another email
22) Finance Flunky says that management has not made a decision
23) Out of the blue, very busy Boss's Boss asks me about status
24) After updating her, she pages head of Finance and cc's me
25) Four weeks go by
26) Boss asks if I've heard from Boss's Boss
27) Onehandle is told by Boss's Boss that all Capital Purchases are frozen
28) One week goes by
29) Onehandle is called by Tech Support:
-TS: "Your new PowerBook is here."
-OH: "Huh? Last I heard was no chance."
-TS: "Ha ha. Your Boss's Boss probably missed the notice. It's down here."
-OH: "O.k. I'll be down shortly."

I think someone made a mistake.
I don't care. It's tagged and I'm keeping it.

2. Getting Project Manager in Corporatemania....

I needed to get Project Manager installed to open an attachment I received.

1) submit a request
2) wait for approval
3) need to take a class on the software in order to get approved for install
4) need to get NetMeeting installed to take the class over the net
5) need to upgrade OS in order to install Net Meeting
6) but wait, need to take a clas on Net meeting to get net meeting approved for install
7) I kid you not -- the net meeting class was conducted via net meeting!
8) accidentally got credit for the Project Manager class which I had yet to take - I had signed up in the middle of the whole debacle and then couldn't actually take it because I didnt have Net Meeting
9) got frickin Project manager installed.
