Some in GOP Hope Rice Runs for President
Anyone see this? :eyes:

WASHINGTON - Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has been spending time in places like Israel and Italy instead of Iowa. Some Republicans hope she will turn from globe-trotting diplomat to barnstorming candidate for president.

The 2008 presidential race is still a long way off, and Rice, a Republican, is only seven months into her job at the State Department. Still, there are signs that she could take a shot at two historic precedents — the first woman president and the first black.

"She is a fascinating candidate," said Iowa State political science professor Steffen Schmidt, jumping the gun a bit. "She's a woman, she's conservative, she's got a foreign policy background and she's extremely smart."

1. If Dems opposed her with anyone half-way decent
We would be looking at a virtual electoral sweep. She is a bad BAD presidential candidate. I hope this picks up steam in the worst way, but it won't

6. the thing i like about rice......
....is that it's so easy to tell when she's lying. she's so transparent...she stammers and stutters and looks very nervous when she's spewing the lies.

with chimpy it's easy too.....watch him begin to blink rapidly as he starts to lie more and more.

10. Did you notice the perpetual smirk during the 9/11 hearings?
She had this shit eating grin on her face the entire time. What the f*** was so amusing to her? I wish someone on the committee would have asked her that.

She's a sociopath! :puke:

2. the repukes would never do that.....
....their base is made up mainly of southern white bigots and racists. a rice candidacy would never happen.

but, if it did happen it would be great. hillary would beat her like a drum.

9. Rice would get more support than you think
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 12:53 PM by JLW
Agreed the Majority of Repugs are white, but I think they would overlook her skin tone in hopes of keeping a dem out of the white house. On top of that...Repugs would gain an African-American voter base. After shunning the NAACP...this would be an effective move.

The only strategic move for Democrats would be to run with Hillary. Even with her pandering to the center of issues....I still don't think she will be a good candidate. She just doesn't appeal to people.

But who knows...

16. the african american voters in the US...
are the smartest voters we have. 93%+ democratic every election. they are very sharp and they see right through kindasleazy rice. i don't think the repubs would chip into that 93% much. on the other hand, the white trash vote (which makes up a huge percentage of the repuke base) would never vote for rice....they'd stay home and clean their guns and watch the nascar channel on election day before voting for an african american woman. and the fundies probably wouldn't be too happy with an african american woman either. so, that's why you'll never see rice on the ticket. unfortunately.

3. This sums up the state of the GOP under Bush
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 12:33 PM by abernste
She was the National Security Adviser who presided over the greatest national security failure in American history!!!

Bush promoted her to Secretary of State, and the rest want her to run for an even higher office.

Fine by me -- the only thing I fear in 2008 is that they run someone NOT connected to this Administration because by then, any ties to Bush and Cheney will be the kiss of death for any candidate.

13. That's what they did when Bush nominated Gonzales for AG.
"Democrats just don't want to see Latinos advance in government."

Fucking assholes.

11. If she does, she will win
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 12:39 PM by ComerPerro
Because right wing, misogynistic racists will vote Republican no matter what. The GOP has their vote locked up. They need to pander to minorities and women.

Plus, she is sleazy enough to win.

14. Golly!
And, were she to add only, "competent", "knowledgable", "capable", "responsible", "honest", "reliable", "trustworthy", "managerial", and "qualified" to that list, she'd have a real STARTING POINT, wouldn't she?
