What did I miss about Ari? Told AF1 gaggle to ask about Wilson trip?!?
Edited on Tue Jul-19-05 04:44 PM by skids
Where is the original source for the "Ari was seen reading the memo on Air Force One" rumor and, perhaps the more damning, the part in this morning's Talking Point Memos that said Ari encouraged the press about AF1 that day to start asking questions about the origin of Wilson's trip?

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2005_07_17.php#006134

(EDIT: for the lazy browsers, quote from the above:

It doesn't really matter. When you're on Air Force One, you are in a confined space. If someone -- anyone -- read that memo, they could have walked 10 feet and shared it with anyone else. All the bureaucratic boundaries of Washington break down when you're in one of those situations. You're all together. Bloomberg said that Ari Fleischer was seen reading it. Plus according to other accounts, he started telling reporters on board that they should ask about how it was that Wilson got to go on the trip. Plus we know that Ari made phone calls from the plane -- they could have been to Rove, Libby, Novak, or whoever, to alert them to what he had just read. When Rove says "I never read anything/saw any memo," he could very well be right. But someone should have asked him, "did you hear about the memo? Did someone describe its contents to you?"

1. listen to the audio file of Charlie Rose at pbs.org
He had a couple of Bloomberg news reporters who talked about the fact that Fleisher had a classified report on Wilson with him on AFI for a trip to Africa. He was trying to discredit Wilson to the press, but didn't mention Plame or anything about Wilson's wife. It seems Rove got the info about Plame from this report, which Fitzgerald now has, rather than through reporters, as Rove is claiming.

The Charlie Rose program was last nights show.

2. Actually, I thought Cooper said that on Charlie Rose
If I am wrong please forgive me I'm on percocet for a broken ankle. I believe that Matt Cooper said he was on AF1 (the Africa flight) and one of his colleagues on the flight specifically saw Ari with the memo in his hand.

3. the Bloomberg reporter said it
I don't know if Cooper also mentioned it, but the main discussion of the Africa trip and that classified document was during the segment with the Bloomberg reporters, both of whom I found impressive.

4. OK, so Bloomberg reporters for the "he had the memo"

...but who are the "other accounts" that said that:

"he started telling reporters on board that they should ask about how it was that Wilson got to go on the trip."

...that was the part that stuck out most to me.
