Democrats should say that they will need to do research, blah, blah, blah.

It's obvious that "Senior Officials in the Administration" expect a firestorm over this nomination, since the guy has argued Roe v. Wade be overturned, and he's an anti-environmentalist. To use Rove's words to Hadley, Senate Democrats should "not take the bait". Let the leak scandal continue to snowball during August, then come back loaded for bear after the summer recess.

1. It's much too late in July for them to do much before the recess.

2. Absolutely. Don't let them call the shots

It's incredible how many people will dislike the Republicans and everything they stand for, but they'll have some dewy-eyed hero-worship for them being effective. Deny them this.

Dems should fire a bunch of shots right now about things they find disturbing, and then stall. Don't let it dominate coverage.

3. Agreed- the closer we can get to October, the better.
I just hope they will hold out. I'm concerned that they will cave and approve him since the buzz now (including Leon Panetta on Countdown) is that Roberts is not as far to the right as some of the other candidates. Plus, since a group of them voted for his present position in 2003.
We can only hope. I wish I had more faith in most of the Democrats these days and this is the perfect situation for Rove to spin it that the Democrats will filibuster everyone Bush picks, etc.

4. Exactly. We don't want to REACT the way they expect us to!

We've FINALLY got those rat bastards on the ropes. They have NEVER changed strategies or altered their game plan. They've done it because they need to deflect some attention away from this scandal. The worst thing that we can do is play right into their hands. I say we continue on the OFFENSIVE and let them remain on the DEFENSIVE. That's guaranteed to blow their minds!

The SC nomination won't even be up for debate for another 5+ weeks. We can't lose our momentum right now, IMO.

Kick and nominate!

Peace.
