Take a deep breath, relax, and put things in perspective
When GHWB nominated Souter, the left went apeshit. He's actually been pretty good. Let's not waste our energy on a fight we can't win. We're the Minority right now. We gotta pick our battles carefully.

3. There it is
We should fight this, but not go crazy when he gets confirmed. It's achance to highlight the Conservative culture of idiocy vs. our own culture of super-brainyness.

or something like that.

7. I understand all your concerns
But as I said in another post, WTF can we expect from *? Another Thurgood Marshall? I think not. I'm just as concerned about women's rights, etc, as anyone. Our political ammunition, however, is limited right now.

11. So which fight do you pick?
And how do you justify to the people whose rights you're abandoning that your perception of what's important is more valid?

5. I say the Dem Senators should demand answers to tough questions
from Roberts, and certainly fight against him if something radical comes to light. I do however think he could be an acceptable SC judge, same as Souter has. I aggree it would be a mistake if we fought against him just because he's a conservative. I was really afraid Shrub was going to name Luttig (sp). I must say I breathed a shigh of relief when he didn't!

6. Souter was NOT a member of the Federalist
Society - this guy is doctrinaire anti-labor, anti-environment and remains to be seen on Roe. But anyone Shrub would have chosen for him would be a gaurantee on all his important issues. They will take no chances of another Souter and you can bet Roberts assured them of that.

I could very easily(and I'm tempted) to say something that would get me banned from DU, not to mention a visit from the feds. I'm trying to be pragmatic.

9. It would be nice to see the Republicans have to work REEAALLY
hard for this or any nomination. Making Republicans sweat is worth any energy Democrats expend.

12. Agreed
He sucks, only not as bad as who could've been. Remember, Renquist could croak by natural causes anytime. Let's save our ammo for that. We're getting close to the 06 elections. We can't afford to be seen as obstructionists. Rove may be down, but he's not out.

13. Most Democrats will always find an excuse not to fight
Kerry was going to ignore the Swift Liars and look where that got all of us.

At some point we have to fight or no one will ever voter for a Democrat again.

15. I do believe that the "public" really does like fighters
especially "righteous" fighters -- fighters for truth and for the kids.

At what point will the real democrats stand up and say -- No More!

Anyway -- I don't have kids (thank goddess we made that decision) -- and we are planning to retire overseas soon. But I still care about what happens to America -- but I am delusional to care -- because apparently the majority of Americans don't give a flying fuck about the future.

Thank goddess for Golf -- I've just hit 100 golf balls -- at least I can see steady improvement in my swing and my aim is improving. Also the golf ball is wonderful for displaced aggression. There's not a damned thing that we can do . . . our vote was stolen.

But I am curing my slice and my golf swing is now straight and true.

It's sort of fun hitting golf balls while listening to Malloy -- I wonder how much further I can hit a ball while listening to Malloy? <grin>

You will probably be happy about not having to see the coming destruction by the right wing U.S. government up close. :)

14. Bull. We Have Power And Everyone That Keeps Acting Like We Don't
Is doing as much damage as Rove!

Sorry that you suffer learned helplessness. I don't.

I will fight this every step of the way. And I will write off my Senators if they do not as well.

We are soooo powerless. Give me a break. Ask Bolton how powerless we are!

16. Learned helplessness -- yep that's what is happening
I've been harping on this since bushie managed to sneak in the back door of the white house.

LEARNED HELPLESSNESS -- it is real -- and this is a massive experiment -- probably being orchestrated by Der Rovian.
