First Take on Roberts
Lesson One: Do not be Distracted

As predicted in this blog, the White House scrambled today to change the subject with a hasty prime time announcement of a Supreme Court nominee. Its early in the process, but based on what I have seen, John Roberts could prove to be a real threat to civil rights, reproductive rights, privacy, separation of church and state, and the environment. Let me know your thoughts if you get a chance.

But the important lesson is that we not let the Supreme Court announcment distract us from the ongoing struggle to root out corruption and deception in the White House, by continuing our examinations of Rovegate, Downing Street, and the ongoing deception in Iraq. For example, there was an important article today in the American Prospect indicating that Rove may well have lied to the FBI -- a serious legal matter.

That is why we have scheduled the 8 town hall meetings on Downing Street and Rovegate around the country this weekend, to commemorate the 3d Anniversary of the DSM. I have also organized more than 200 house parties on DSM and Rovegate this Saturday, and just today mailed out DVD's and organizing materials to all of the Hosts. I for one will not be distracted. We have learned all to well that this Administration can and will manipulate the media to its advantage. However, its absolutely critical that we continue our work.

14. As a Michigander, I have seen Conyers take on more than one task

at a time. I see this as a different interpretation. Let us not forget how corrupt and backwards this administration is on ALL fronts...including this nominee. :hi:

20. He didn't say don't fight

He said don't get distracted. We can keep our eyes on more than one thing but the SCOTUS nomination is clearly meant as a distraction, not a serious choice.

In five weeks, that fight will be on and we will have had five weeks to dig up even more dirt on Bork, er, Roberts. In the meanwhile, we will continue with Rovegate, DSM and the assorted other ways this administration has lied. Five weeks is an awfully long time.

25. My interpretation

Once again, JC is reminding us to keep our eyes on the prize. We must keep focus on DSM, Treasongate, but also add this BS to our list of "things to do". As pointed out earlier, we are capable of doing more than 1 or 2 things at a time.

It's not as if we've never worked on a number of issues. We have to prioritize since we can't effectively do everything at the same time.

Besides, the "Traitorgate" was making a demonstrable difference in the court of public opinion. We can't just let go of that opportunity.

37. Let's just say that this SC deal is quite enlightening

Nobody is giving up anything and this whole thing plays better for our side than theirs. This is a 'in your face' to distract move, nothing more.

That original announcement (just a few weeks ago) that the SC nominee would be named in late august tells me they are prone when it comes to Rove. I don't know why people have such a short memory on the SC anyway, she was one of the gang of five. Like what side (when push comes to shove) does she really swing to anyway?

She also isn't a asset for anything of value as far as I can see, let the fascists go play patty cake with her some more. Something tells me there are more important fish to fry here
