The August Deal - Time for a Compromise?
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 07:40 AM by ThomWV
The Congress will recess in August.

Bush feels he needs Roberts, his Supreme Court Nominee, to have been confirmed before the next session of Court, beginning in October.

You know Bush is planning a Recess Appointment of Bolton during the Congressional recess in August.

Looks like a compromise to me. How about if Bush takes Bolton off the list now and nominates someone who is acceptable for the UN. Then he can have Roberts. If he does a recess appointment of Bolton then its to go to the mats against Roberts.

How's that sound?

1. I would rather have B at UN than R at SC
The UN appt is time-limited and limited in the damage he can do (he can be an ass, but the rest of the world will ignore him). The SC appt could be for 30 years and do irrepairable damage.

5. You Mean He Didn't Deal Before Rove's Problems
I think the arrogant bastard has been shaken to his roots by TreasonGate. Might be time for a deal.

Look it is the only way we will get anything out of this. He can and will appoint Bolton and there is not a thing we can do about it. He has nominated Roberts and Roberts will sit on the Supreme Court, you can dam well bet on it. At least with a compromise we get to remove one of the evils. Half a victory is better than no victory at all.

7. Filibuster both of them. Look where "compromise" has landed us.
"Compromise" landed us in Iraq. Compromise gave 3 rightwing judges a pass into the district courts.

Time for the "opposition" party to start opposing..for a change.
