About the mid-terms and the Supreme Court ...
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 09:50 AM by DURHAM D
Would a big fat fight (possible loss of fillibuster)help or hurt the Dems chances for taking the House and improving numbers in the Senate in 2006?

If we take the House we can impeach. Should that be our goal?

1. It wouldn't affect the House. If there's a fight it will be in the Senate
It's the Senate that confirms the SC nominee, and has nothing to so with the House.

If we are going to take back the House, we have to use other arguments to do that! House members almost ALWAYS vote the Party line, and that's why Dean is speaking in all 50 States, to help recruit good Dem candidates to defeat the incumbants and win the House back!

2. How stupid do you think I am ? I know what the Senate does and
what the House does. The question was about perceptions in the voting public if we have a protracted fight?

Will it help the Democratic party?

Will a fight over the Supreme appt. result in getting out the vote, creating a buzz around among younger voters - esp. women, just getting out the numbers if they feel like their lives are being threatened. I think Bush has given us an opportunity here to articulate the difference between Dems and Repugs if it is handled correctly.

3. I don't think you stupid! If I gave that impression, I apologize!!!
I just don't see this as affecting the house candidates. I also think that if the Dem Senators take this to the mat, they are going to have to clearly show they are fighting the Roberts comfirmation for a reason the public can understand, and not just because he was appointed by Shrub.
