"Why “White House v. Wilson/Plame” Matters"
The key issue in the affair has little directly to do with former U.S. ambassador Joseph Wilson; or his wife, Valerie Plame; or Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby; or even President George W. Bush's alter ego, Karl Rove. White House v. Wilson/Plame is about Iraq, where our sons and daughters—and many others—are daily meeting violent death in an unwinnable war.

And it's about manipulation.

It's about how our elected representatives were deceived into voting for an unprovoked war and what happened when one man stood up and called the administration's bluff. And it's about the perfect storm now gathering, as:

~ more lies are exposed (whether in journalists' e-mails or in the minutes of high-level meetings at 10 Downing Street),

~ the guerrilla war escalates in Iraq, and

~ more and more Americans find themselves agreeing with Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., that administration leaders seem to be "making it up as they go along."

It wasn't envisaged this way by the naïve "neoconservative" ideologues that got us into the quagmire in Iraq. Actually they still seem to believe that all will be well if the Iraqi people can only get it into their heads that we are liberators, not occupiers.

2. How long till they smear Fitzgerald?
It looks like this investigation has some real legs. This looks like it goes all the way to the President. How long until the Republican sleeze machine starts smearing Fitzgerald?

9. Welcome!!!
:hi:

As another poster suggested in another post, the pResident's actions in failing to reveal Rove in the beginning makes him appear to be a co-conspirator in a cover-up. Isn't that something?

4. I particularly like "The Big Lie" portion of the article.
The truth is, the Bush administration worked AGAINST national interests and security from the very beginning. They sought to destroy a century of evolution, which required huge sacrifices on behalf of those who pulled on behalf of the interests of the American people.

Their objectives were purely self-serving: to hell with the country and to hell with the people. It's an outrage of historical proportions that these bastards rule FOR themselves and AGAINST the American people. Absolute abuse of power.

12. I suppose diplomacy requires him to,...
,...use the word "manipulation" rather than something stronger like "betrayal" or "exploitation". Well, that and people have become so gun-shy because of the outrageous personal assassination tactics by the far right, fascist wing.

13. I am tired of the diplomacy tactic. Can't we just call a spade a spade?

15. Not if we appreciate others' lot in life.

Sometimes, I think we underestimate just how exceptionally knowledgeable we are and how intimidating we can be. Plus, our passion often gets in the way of our capacity to reach out to people who are, fundamentally, in our camp. We scare them when we should be nurturing their common sense of our humanity.

Does that make sense?

I am all for full-front attack on the fascist-wing of the republican regime 'cause I fucking HATE bullies. BUT, the rest of Americans,...I treat much differently because their interests are my primary concern, and just because they've "drank the kool-aid" does not mean they are all bad, bullying individuals.

So, yeah,...that's my take.

19. Depends upon who you are talking to.
In my day-to-day communications with those who have been fooled, I tend to focus upon prompting them to just,...think,...by asking simple questions: "What is happening with this administration? I'm confused. Did they really mislead us about WMDs?" or "Why is Bush sending so many National Guardsmen over there?" or "Does Bush really want to take away our social security?",...stuff like that.

Of course, I concentrate on everyday discourse rather than broad messages. Moreover, I just have never really considered battling those who are prepared to exploit others in the ways that this fascist wing of the republican regime has,...no matter what the impact of their absolute self-centeredness. All I can figure is to focus on their evil, as best I can, each day.

11. Good post.
We have invaded another country under false pretenses. Actually, under outright lies. Every day, people are suffering and dying. And that is one very real consequence of this case.

Yet we should also remember that something else is occuring: the US Constitution is being trampled, and our intended form of federal government is being destroyed. While we are not being subjected to the same horrors of war, we are still being invaded by a force that wants to destroy our way of life.
