Retention elections for Supreme Court |
Would this be a good idea? A lot of state supreme courts have retention elections and Illinois elects it's justices out right. I think if the people we're given a choice of retaining justices appointed, I think it would keep a more stable balance. Like if a justice was appointed they would have a four-year term before a retention election.

1. Noit necessarily, because in this country, only the most... |
motivated people tend to vote. If the fundies thought they could stack the court, they would be voting two and three times each election, or Diebold would be doing it for them.

2. So Diebold can decide who's on the SC? no thanks |
I was talking about this with a co-worker and we were thinking an age minimum might be a good idea, or else the next thing would be nominating a 15 year old so he can be on the court for 70 years. Why get a SC justice for 40 years when you can have one for 70?

3. Would need a constitutional ammendment to |
accomplish this, and I think a snow ball has a better chance in a blast furnace than this idea.
Good God there is enough politics out here, we need to keep courts as de-politiczied as possible, not add to it.
