Georgia voters are Diebold guinea pigs
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 01:17 PM by Bill Bored
<http://www.dembloggers.com/story/2005/7/19/232324/915>

Yesterday, thanks to Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, a new window opened on the facts of electronic voting. We discovered the State of Georgia agreed to use Georgia voters as guinea pigs and Diebold's beta test of electronic voting.

1. And they were pleased to see it worked just as they planned.
Cleland...Bush...
Then on to '04.

6. Plus, they learned another valuable lesson
which kinda offset the lesson they learned in FL in 2000.

In GA they learned not to let the swing in pre-election polls and post-election results get too big.

In FL 2000 they learned not to let there be too SMALL a difference between the candidates' votes else it could trigger a recount, either automatic (depending on state regs) or requested by candidates (again, depending on state regs).

IOW, they've now learned, and we saw it in 2004, that the wins have to be "not too big, and not too small, but just right," to adapt Goldilocks's famous standard of measurement.

And Georgia has been the proving ground for all of it.

7. This is bigger than Iraq, Plame or the SCROTUS
Unless voting is made verifiable by the next election, we may very well see the last vestiges of secularism and pluralism crushed under the heel of corporate theocracy. I can't think of an issue that's more important right now.

9. Exactly right. IMO it's ALWAYS been "the" most important thing
Or as I'm so fond of quoting (wherever I got it): You can't vote 'em out if you didn't vote 'em in.

If you don't have the vote you have NO ability to affect anything else or anything that happens. None. Except thru less, um, "democratic" means, of course.

I don't understand why some people are so sanguine about it. I can get it that even as important as it is it's still not everyone's cup of tea, but I don't get not "getting it" about its importance.

If Bush didn't win either of his elctions (and he didn't), everything that has happened under him (ALL these atrocities) never needed to happen and were ALL illegitimate. If some of the Senators who helped push the Senate into Dem hands didn't actually win (and they didn't), well imagine what that would've meant since 2000 and 2002.

10. I hear you loud and clear Eloriel, I do.
I hate to even say this but it seems that it is possible that a lot of the Democratic top Senators are just going along with the pukes on electronic voting. Could they have possibly been bought off too ? I know the DLC is repuke lite which means lose. Everyone knows they cheated with those Diebold machines and the Central Tabulators. Bush could not have gotten more votes than there are voters in a lot of the Ohio counties. They didn't call Ohio until early in the AM because they had to know how many votes they needed to flip. There is no doubt they cheated. Everything we do here on DU and we do as Democrats throughout this entire country isn't going to matter at all if they get to keep cheating with electronic voting machines. We could run Jesus Christ and we would still lose. It amazes me that so many people act like any future elections are winnable with the electronic voting machines. Am I wrong here ? I hope I am.

11. There are a number of Democrats I worry about
Cathy Cox is at the top of the list, of course, but so are Steny Hoyer and Chris Dodd, both of whom were in there from the get-go on HAVA, and have been against our efforts since then. They're in thick as thieves witht he voting industry, I believe.

13. One thing is for sure
The Georgia Democratic party has done everything in their power to protect Cathy Cox.

And, today, they have no candidate to replace her in the SoS office so they'll hand the job to Bill Stephens - a Georgia version of Katherine Harris and Ken Blackwell.

12. This, I must say, is possibly even bigger than the inside job that is
9/11...our last peaceful recourse has been stolen...and our high profile 'leaders' seem to not give a damn. Hey Hillary, what happened? Video games?

Conyers and a tiny handful are in a struggle to save this country. It is astonishing how little support he and others get from the party.

Those are televised live, and yet the really important stuff is not.

18. Remember Andrew Veal - U Georgia public opinion survey researcher!!!!
Veal supposedly snuck past security at Ground Zero and scaled a 15-foot high wall to "kill himself" with a shotgun right after the election.

He was a vegetarian who hated poverty and intolerance of all kinds. I cannot help but wonder whether he was killed because he knew too much, after witnessing the 2000, 2002 and 2004 Georgia elections and knowing what the electorate was REALLY thinking.
