What About the Republican WOMEN???
Don't know if this has been mentioned, if so, just ignore me - but I for one do not beleive for one minute that any woman (or man) outside of the Evangelical realm will ALLOW for Roe v. Wade to be overturned. Career-orientated Republican women will NOT go for Roe v Wade being overturned. Bush & Roberts will appease ONLY the extreme Evangelical right wing base - and I don't think their numbers are there. It will be interesting to see Republican women stand up and fight against this appointment.

If I am not mistaken, I thought I read a study that the vast majority of abortions are performed on career-oriented, not yet ready for prime time women - and that's a whole bunch of women.

My sister - who is not normally very politically active - called me this morning and wanted to know WHERE to go - what internet site, WHERE to go to oppose this nomination! Of course I told her DU. This is going to get women fired up everywhere - that is my belief. And that is what needs to happen.

1. Add to that all this talk
about birth control pills, Morning After, being chemical abortions of a fertilized eggs, it could get very, very ugly. Too many women, unfortunately, do not realize how extreme these Right to Life people really are.

11. Huh?
Do you think gay republican men will be okay with NOT allowing a woman the right to choose? I don't - and how many of them are there? I don't think too many. Most gays hate Bush* et al.

3. They're eating the "precedent" of Roe line
and shrugging. IMO, we need to ask good hard questions about restrictions on abortion, "right to life" (and right to die), access to contraceptives, and access to emergency contraceptives...not directly Roe.

Roe will remain and not be overturned...DIRECTLY, IMO. However, it will EFFECTIVELY be overturned through more restrictive laws, patting pharmacists on the backs who deny filling prescriptions, delaying abortions for rape victims by adding required appeals processes and/or requirements (e.g. parental notification), etc.

8. Oh, believe me, they have abortions.
They just fly somewhere 'discreet' to have it taken care of - maybe claim they were at a 'health spa' somewhere. That's only one of the worst things about these Repukes - they're such effing hypocrites.

6. If R's overturn Roe, who wins congress and 1600 Pa Ave?
Rich women will just go to where abortion is legal.

But this is a issue used to keep the R's base supporting them. Settling this issue is not in their interest. Better we all keep fighting about it for the next hundred years or more.

10. At the time of the election

they probably didn't think any further than their pocketbooks or 'terrorism' - now its going to hit a little closer to home. I am not going to be surprised if they come out screaming against this nomination.

9. What About Them????
If they voted for Bush and continue to vote for politicians that do not believe in a woman's right to choose, f**k them.

I would guess that some Republican women are under the impression that if Roe v. Wade is overturned it won't apply to them, I mean after all they have been loyal to the Party. It's kind of like the
LCR, they seem to vote based on what they can put into their wallets,
and totally ignore the fact the the Repukes have an anti-gay agenda,
and want to make them into second class citizens, or worse.

Perhaps my initial statement was a bit harsh, but Republican women support a party that if it should get enough judges on the SCOTUS, will throw out not only Roe v. Wade, but voting rights for people of color, and laws that protect all Americans from discrimination.

As long as they continue to vote against their interests, they can go take a long walk off a short pier.

One last thing, don't count on the kool-aid drinkers to get very fired up, and if they do I'll apologize to you and to them.

12. MANY Republican women voted for Kerry (and Gore)
for a variety of reasons, but overturning women's rights was a BIG motivator.

For the "terra and taxes" liberal/moderate Republican women who refused to believe that Roe would ever be overturned, I must say I TOLD YOU SO!!!

14. It's not just women in the Evangelical realm that are anti-abortion
There are many non-fundie, professional women who are anti-choice. I work with 5 of them.
