The Lull Before the Storm?
By Washington standards, a fairly quiet day today. But I am peparing for a busy couple of days starting tomorrow.
Thursday, the House takes up the extension of the PATRIOT Act. We expect our usual closed rule from the Republicans, than a few hours of debate, followed by a series of cover amendments designed to make the bill look better than it is. Check it out on C-SPAN if you get a chance, probably beginning around 11 AM ET and continuing most of the afternoon. As the Ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, I will be quite involved in this one.
Friday, we have a
Democratic hearing on Rovegate, organized by my friend Henry Waxman, starting at 10 am ET. Not sure yet what the media situation is. Will try to let you know as I learn more.
Saturday, of course is the
nationwide series of town hall meetings on DSM and Rovegate. I will be in Detroit from 2-4 for mine.
http://www.afterdowningstreet.org">Afterdowningstreet.org will have simultaneous blogging from all the events, and I understand C-SPAN will tape Maxine Waters event in LA, but it will not be rebroadcast till Monday evening.
Than of course, we have the
house parties. I am organizing on the same subject -- DSM and Rovegate. Right now we are up to 287 separate events and more than 6400 attendees. At 4 PM, I'll be leading a conference call with the hosts, along with Randi Rhodes and Ambassador Wilson. The House parties will also be concurrent with blogging from each event on this page, with accompanying photos and analysis. This should not only be pathbreaking, but educational.
On Sunday, perrhaps a day of rest.
