What the hell is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan?
Edited on Wed Jul-20-05 10:39 PM by Jara sang
I was just going over some articles about the war and came up with these two items:

From January 9th 2002
http://www.pbs.org/newshour/extra/features/jan-june02/war_update_1-9.html

The U.S. lost its first solider to enemy fire in Afghanistan on January 4. Green Beret Nathan Ross Chapman was killed during a small-arms battle with hostile forces in eastern Afghanistan.
Afghan leaders say a 14-year-old boy may be responsible for the soldier's death.

From April 18th 2003
http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/2003/b04182003_bt257-03.html

Das was the pilot of an F-15E that went down April 7 during a combat mission in Iraq. The incident remains under investigation.

A 14 year old boy killed a an Army green beret? And it also looks like the Iraqis are capable of taking down our high performance U.S. Air Force aircraft. How is this happening? I thought we had the most elite fighting force on the face of the planet.

7. Well...
Having a Green Beret doesn't make you bulletproof. And if you lower your guard because 'he's just a kid', the kid can pull a gun on you and shoot.

As for the F-15... a piece of metal (say, a anti-aircraft cannon round) in the wrong place can bring one down.

"Best" doesn't mean invincible.

10. I realize that.
My dissatisfaction is with the administration and the media. Why aren't they reporting these things? I'm sure the "real" cause for that F-15 being shot down will be under investigation for a long time. I mean it is being reported, but the issues aren't really being addressed.

15. sorry.
tone of post and all.

Planes go down for the darndest reasons. I remember a Naval Aviation accident report that read (free translation) "to avoid hitting a bird, he crashed into the ocean". BTW, this was off the coast of California... no possible hostile action.

And it's not getting reported because "The Media" decided that they didn't have time to bother with it that day.

Freedom of the Press is limited to those who own one.
