Limbaugh Rules Ratings - LA & Chicago -
Dumb dittoheads listening to Limbaugh lies and loving it.

Rush Limbaugh Rules Los Angeles and Chicago
Wednesday July 20, 8:58 pm ET
- Numbers Don't Lie -

LOS ANGELES, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Rush Limbaugh, the first national radio host to interview Vice President Dick Cheney and former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani today about President George W. Bush's nominee to the Supreme Court, also was first today in the Arbitron Spring 2005 ratings survey for Los Angeles and Chicago. The Rush Limbaugh Show, heard Monday through Friday on KFI-AM in Los Angeles from 9 a.m. - noon scored, among Persons 12+, a 4.4 share with 100,100 listeners tuning in, on average, every quarter hour. Among Adults 25-54, he has a 2.5 share with 35,900 of them tuning in, on average, every quarter hour. Al Franken, who airs at the same time on KTLK-AM in Los Angeles, has a share of 1.2 with 28,400 listeners Persons 12+ tuning in, on average, every quarter hour. With Adults 25-54, he has a 0.8 share with a listening audience of 11,900, on average, every quarter hour. Mr. Limbaugh's audience of Persons 12+ is three and a half times the size of Mr. Franken's audience. Among Adults 25-54, Mr. Limbaugh more than triples Mr. Franken's audience.

In addition to Mr. Limbaugh and Mr. Franken, below are numbers for other talkers who don't run head to head with Mr. Limbaugh:

1. To be honest,
it's his show and copy cats that have create the cult we're now dealing with fighting and trying to save the country from. I hope when indictments come down, this most insidiously damaging cult in the US and its extremely ignorant and brainwashed following will finally get a clue they are unintelligent idiots.

2. But look how long Limbaugh's been in those markets....
I thought AAR just got back on in Chicago. And how long has Schultz been on either in LA or Chicago?

My bet is on Schultz taking a big bite out of Limpball's market eventually. Bigger than AAR.

Also could be that it's Repug propaganda, too, even if it's a survey.

8. Not a survey, just the Arbitrons
"Also could be that it's Repug propaganda, too, even if it's a survey"

Nope, not a survey. It's just the regular Arbitron ratings book. I'm at an ad agency and we should be getting ours later today or tomorrow.

The question should be why is this news?

FWIW, the ratings are used to determine the price of advertising on each show. The higher the ratings the more expensive the radio spots and the higher the revenue for the station/network.

3. Franken's show is brand new in LA
I'm sure his audience will build; Limbaugh has been on the same station at the same time for years. People forget that AAR is still only a year old and a quickly expanding start-up.

I don't think anyone would have expected a year ago, after Franken had been yanked off the air in LA and Chicago, that Franken would be competitive with Rush. Hell, they thought AAR would be done by now.

4. here's a great radio ratings site
www.radioandrecords.com

go to the ratings page

I'll check it out and add and update later.

Keep in mind that AAR is growing very rapidly and Ed Shultz even faster. Also, Rush saturates the areas with billboards and other advertising. If AAR starts doing 1/10 the ads, they'll probably double their audience.

10. Franken increased 300%, Rush drops 20% in LA
Here's the data right from the website, that was a pretty rotten article. I suspect AAR is doing equally well in Chicago.

Station Group Owner Format Sp'04 Su'04 Fa'04 Wi'05 Sp'05
KFI-AM Clear Channel Talk 4.5 4.3 4.4 4.6 3.9

KTLK-AM Clear Channel Talk 0.2 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.8

5. I've been a fan of Al Fraken's since the early 80's, however
his show is probably my third of fourth favorite on KTLK. I prefer Ed Shultz and Randi Rhodes.

I'm not sure what it is...but I don't like listening to Al on the radio as much as I thought I would.

Anyone know how the others fared on the ratings?

6. How relevant are these numbers?
Are these numbers even relevant anymore?

I mean, considering most listeners of AAR/Liberal Talk generally listen on the Internet (including Radiopower and the rest of the Internet only stations) and/or Satellite radio I would think that the gap is a little smaller between right and left talkers.

7. The numbers are relevant because they translate to revenue...
ratings = ad revenue

We want Air America to be a successful commercial venture that entice others to enter the progressive radio market.

11. Ah, good point!
Ah, good point.. I didn't think of that. I was only thinking of bragging rights.

Nevermind, I stand corrected! :)
