I"m going to tell you why this picture of Roberts should concern us

No, it's not how the kids are dressed or what his wife is wearing. This picture concerns me for exactly one reason - Look how young John Roberts is. He looks like he's probably in his 40's (I don't know his age off the top of my head).

We have Supreme Court Justices still serving at age 85 so we should be extremely concerned about how young Roberts is. He could be making decisions for the Bush Regime for DECADES after the last trace of the Bush administration is removed from the White House. And I'm not talking just RoeVWade but basic freedoms that we all support that it seems he is against. Just go to the home page of DU and read more about what this guy stands for. Hell, he supported how the cops treated a 12-year-old girl who ate a french fry on a DC metro.

Supreme Court appointments are LIFETIME appointments so if you want this guy sitting on the high bench making decisions not only for your children but quite possibly your grand children, the go ahead and let this nomination slide without a quiver of protest. But if you're like me, you know that this is not a good choice and that Bush is simply stacking the courts with the judges needed to extended this administration well into the decades of 2010, 2020, 2030 hell maybe even 2040. So please take part in Skinner's request for action, call/write your senators, support the groups that oppose this nomination and write letters to your editor. John Roberts is NOT acceptable for a lifetime position on the Supreme Court!

1. From what I have read, he is 50 years old.
So we will probably have him around for 3 decades.

4. That concern is *precisely* why Rethuglicans recommended Ginsberg
to Clinton, so that he would take her rather than some very young and healthy liberal jurist. They knew she might not last through another office holder's term.

5. Thank goodness, if it's only 30 years then that's ok
:eyes:

Still to long - 5 minutes is too long to have that guy on the Supreme Court.

And he's 50 years old with 2 kids who look to be under the age of 10??!!! What the hell was he doing with the first 40 years of his life? Anyone else and this would not raise an eyebrow, but this is some fundie nut job getting an appointment to SCOTUS who will use his moral judgement to pass on to others. I know John Edwards has children that young and he's around 50 but we all know that Edwards lost a child who was around 17 and he & his wife opted to have more kids them. So what's the background on Roberts - I think this is important to understand why he wasn't doing the lords works and popping out half a dozen kids by the time he was 30

14. What's he been doing...?
Working for Bush I and energy lobbyists, working against the environment, helped Bush* steal Florida... and I think he has been groomed for this day for a loooooong time.

3. That's been a concern of mine since O'Connor announced her retirement.
Like the horrible mistake we made in letting Thomas get confirmed. He *was* only in his 40s at the time.

I had wondered from the start if the Dems best strategy on this one would be to hold out for the OLDEST nominee so as to minimize the amount of time they could destroy our rights.

9. Yeah - Bush himself said one of the reasons he was excited about Roberts
was because he was only 50.

10. It should have been a concern of yours since Dec. 13, 2000
And if you're a Nader voter in Florida, shame on you.

He is beholden to Chimp and his father for his appointment. That is all that needs to be said.

Did you see Daily Show last night? They said, "he is SO white". They made fun of the son, on Ritilin(sp)

8. I AM worried about the way his kids are dressed. They look like kids from
the fifties. Little short pants on the boy and mary janes with white socks on the little girl. They look very strange in these "retro" outfits. I don't see kids dressed like that these days.

Am I out of it? :eyes: What if she's a "retro" person. How old is she? Is she close to fifty and is bringing up her kids in some way that reflects the times of Eisenhower/Nixon administration?

Kay Bailey Hutchinson adopted twins in her very late 50's. Are these "trophy kids?"

13. This thread isn't about the way the kids dress, hell that's the least...
...of our worries.

This many is young enough to do serious damage for many decades to come. Doesn't that seem a little more important than dressing his kids up in their Sunday Best for a photo-op with the chimp

15. Here's why I think the wife and kids should be considered these days....

Some folks think we should stay out of "criticizing" families. But when Repugs are obsessed about "family values" it seems to me that looking at the whole "package" is important .

20. I go to a church with lots of folks. None of their kids dress like that..
I wonder how many others go to church and see kids like this.

Now, I guess you could say this is "class warfare" if the church I go to has lots of folks who are "well to do" and move in high political circles where I live. But, if those folks kids don't dress like this...then I wonder what's going on?

I think it's important to know. We have a difference on this. But, a  to you anyway.

17. Local RW radio morning DJ (who couldn't get any bigger than Akron
and claims he loves it)

(WKDD Akron)

spent a good chunk of 2004 claiming that John Edwards had some sort of pact with the Devil so that he looked so young, even though he was 50 or so.

Haven't heard a peep yet from the *ucker.

18. basic difference in philosophies
between the liberals and the conservatives is that we believe in governing and they believe in ruling. A fifty year old man may be brilliant but he still is young in terms of experience in the view of "life". This is especially true if you have kids that young. You still kind of believe you are invincible. When you turn sixty you are starting to deal with your own immortality and and that is probably the proper age to understand the long term ramifications of decisions that the constitution will impact.
