I'm depressed - help me!

Absolutely NONE of my GD friends could give a whit about what is happening in this country. Oh sure, some of them whine about it - but if I start any kind of conversation as to what is happening here, i.e. the media (or lack thereof)- Air America radio, Cheney-Halliburton-Iraq-profiteering, Downing Street Memo and it's consequences - their faces sort of glaze over and the feeling becomes one of un-comfortableness between us.
I'm attending one of the Town Hall Meetings on Saturday - extended invitations and have as yet heard from anyone.
Don't get me wrong - I don't approach them and try to 'strong-arm' them - just try to have a conversation. It upsets me that there doesn't even seem to be a glitter of interest. I refuse to accept the notion that there isn't anything that anyone of us can do about this situation in our country. I suppose I just have to suck it in and accept them for who they are (while quietly despising them for it)
and go ahead with our friendships on their terms. Sigh.

As I have stated before on another thread - whatever happens to this country is well-deserved.

What really upsets me is that 2 of my friends profess to be Dems as well - they are just plain-ass lazy about acting up.
Only seem to care about getting their animals to the vet or groomer or puppy classes, bowling, softball, or just plain having fun, dining,
parties, etc.
Don't get me wrong - I like all of the above as well - but I also care very deeply about what is happening on this planet.

bring up anything political. It could be though that after 5 yrs I'm starting to sound like a broken record. I will say that most of them really are interested in the Plame leak, but become activitists? Nah.

10. It's two songs.

They are just short ditties at the beginning and end of the album "Animals." I often use that album to convert depression into a feeling of being part of a unified struggle, coupled with a self-righteous indignation. It's not an entirely positive album, but it works when the others fail.

(EDIT: FWIW, the entire album also exists as a cover by Les Claypool's Flying Frog Brigade, and is very faithful to the original.)

there is nothing quite as gloomy and worrysome as the lonileness of knowledge .It's part of the reason right wing christians are so succesful ,

However knowing what you know , believing what you believe , you suppercede all of that by the virtue of hope .Acknowledging the truth and conceiving your world in a view which abides by that is hard , not because it has to be , but because some of those before us fucked up due to the ussual flaws of ego-tripping ,greed and what have you not .That said , standing there alone feeling like you could scream 'fucking idiot'or 'motherfucking retard' whichever pleases your flavour , is a good sign .It means there is still hope , so be their friend , feel frustrated .But i hope you derive some calm and happines from knowing yours is not only hope but also to a larger extent truth .

And with a bit of luck evolution will eventually prove them wrong , leaving you with a likeness to darwin , whose always been quite the flatulent santa to the liberal .


Words are just that , words , so strength friend , and if it really gets to be a drag beyond the possibility of a weary intelect , move or take a trip to canada or europe .

but you need to let it out- holding it in is even more exhausting, and self defeating-

OH i hear you so clearly- and feel much the same-

This world is insane- and people don't seem to notice or care-
but it COULD be worse Bullwinkle- you could be 'one of them'- and although that might 'seem better' it wouldn't be.

Have you listened to the "A Perfect Circle" cd? i gave it to my 21yr old son for Christmas- he LOVES it- i love the accapella rendition of Joni Mitchells "Fiddle for the Gun" - i could listen to it over and over and over- also Ray Lamontangne (a local hero) sings a song called "all the wild horses"- touches my soul- it's on the net- on his cd called Trouble.

i wish i could offer you a hug and a cup of ice tea with lemon honey and a sprig of mint, and much sympathy- it's always been a comfort to me

And it's exhausting indeed , so is waking up in a world where the larger part finds grand comfort in beating up fellow kin .Yet it has a rewarding deliverance as stated by Blue which is so much better than leaving it linger around .

sometimes i also derive some comfort from reading 'le petit prince '

don't tell the crackers though they might turn him into a fuedal lord who fights cruel 'darkies'with their spin .

21. Do what I did

Make new friends. People in progressive organizations are very welcoming and some of them love to throw parties. Go to all the events you want to go to and participate in all the activism you can. You'll get to know like-minded people on a personal level. Doesn't mean you have to dump your old friends. Just realize that they aren't as committed as you are at this point. And you can never have too many friends! :hi:
