The weight loss staple

I read the Internet like most people watch tv and am particularly interested in medical fascism from the politic side and natural ways to stay healthy from the other side. I read most everything at CureZone.com and track down links just like people do here at DU.

Anyway, today is the first I heard about the weight loss staple that is put in people's ear and some claim helps with weight loss. Weight is the biggest deal in health as your weight is the greatest predictor of your lifespan.

1. Last week I had a laser ear procedure done to quit smoking

They select certain spots in your ear, like an acupunturist would do, and zap you with a laser. The claim was that these are pressure points or something like that and that in your ear. The guy was teaching a nurse how to do the procedure and he was pointing at spots saying, this is for appetite, this spot is for supressing nicotine, etc. Any I left there wanting a cigarette so it clearly didn't work on me. I think that it's psychological and if you think it will work, it will - same with this piercing thing.

2. Another theory about approaches like that...

Doing tissue damage will cause your body to produce endorphins, the natural painkillers that are mimicked by opiates. Part of the addictive power of many things, such as nicotine, alcohol & maybe some foods, lies in the fact that they also cause your body to generate the endorphins, so when you get a substitute endorphin-generator such as the staple or the laser injury going, you are in effect replacing the opiate-effect of the target addictive substance. Therefore it is supposedly easier to deal with the addiction. I dunno how good a theory this is, but there have been recent studies of naloxone (an endorphin antagonist drug) that showed it to be useful in treating alcoholism. Also, when I quit smoking more than 20 years ago, I found a different way to get my endorphin high. I exercised. At the time I had only a part time job, so I walked for miles & miles. Then I got a bike & rode for miles & miles.

Trust me, that is bullshit. More likely is staple acting as a placebo.

because ear stapling to lose weight was a fad in the 70s.

That is what surprised me about this obscure thing just now hitting me. I never knew they lasered people's ears like mentioned above. Maybe I will get an acupuncture on the ear for weight loss message.
