Karl Rove Scandal and the Big Picture
Karl Rove Scandal and the Big Picture

http://magic-city-news.com/article_4272.shtml

George W. Bush seems to be placing personal loyalties and political loyalties over his Presidential obligations and image. Bush promised the American people publicly repeatedly that he would fire anyone responsible at the White House who was involved in revealing the identity of the CIA operative married to former Ambassador Wilson.

1. I think Rove knows what he is doing here.
Consider:
-Bush continues to reaffirm his position that Rove would be fired if he committed a crime.
-We all know the media and Democrats are not going to let this story just fizzle away. Rove knows this too.
-Rove is no political fool. I find it hard to believe that Rove would instruct Bush to continue sticking by him if he knew it could lead to political humiliation, or worse, for the both of them.

The conclusion I have to draw from this is that Rove expects the investigation not to turn up any solid proof of his wrongdoing.
So I wouldn't get your hopes up about anything significant, such as a resignation, coming out of this.

3. I disagree.
By now the special prosecutor has notified Rove that he is a subject of the investigation. Rove knows that he's perjured himself. So does Libby. Bush and Cheney know that they are part of it, too (as well as half of the top West Wing staff).

Their strategy seems to be to hunker down and attempt to ride it out. The same thing happened in the White House during Watergate. Even in the days just before the Haldeman and Ehrlichman resignations, the White House was singing their praises.

I think all this show of support is just that, keeping up appearances at a time that all Hades is breaking loose. They are in very big trouble and I think that they know it. They're trying to protect Bush, and maybe Cheney, too. The rest are expendable.

Just keep asking:
What did the President know, and when did he know it?

6. watergate
that's true.........they all stuck together during Watergate too!

In fact, the only reason why Nixon agreed to leave voluntarily is because he didn't want to be impeached.

I have no doubt that this administration will do the same thing!

Just look at Rove's example. For 2 yrs he's lied to everyone saying that he didn't have anything to do with the leak of Plame. The only reason why he admitted it when he did was because Cooper's emails provided evidence that he did!!

I'm sure they're all involved..........the only question is now, can we prove it?

5. They Confuse Political With Criminal
Rove is a political animal and this, like other "bosses", is their ultimate undoing...believing their own press clippings and getting sloppy.

Obviously, you're not as into this scandal as many of us here are...and I'm not talking about the "Tin Foil" MIHOP conspiracy ones, I'm refering to a lot of us who've been following the news reports from the moment the Novak article came out and we've been following it since. Come on along and learn as well. The truth sets you free.

Initially, I would agree with your assessment as this regime thought it had the power over the corporate media and government to do as they please and trash who they please. They employed the "telephone" system Rove and others have used effectively to smear yet without their finger prints on them. This time someone got a little sloppy...and instead of trying to face the music, they're making even more mistakes in covering up the original mistake. Plus this regime will never assume responsibility for its actions...it's totally against every bone in their bodies.

Welcome to DU...enjoy your stay.

Cheers...

10. at a bare minimum, conservatives can no longer whine about
a stained blue dress. The whole Monica thing pales in relation to this callous disregard for a covert agent or just the CIA in a time of war.

Don't misunderstand me, I think Rove and others will be indicted. I am just saying, don't be thinking Bush and his gang can salvage a "we are so honorable" legacy.

8. Very important point.
In fact, one of the single most important ones for us to consider. Bush's "loyalty" is certainly to Rove first, and to Rice second. Both are in a bad position here. In terms of loyalty, we need to keep in mind that Wilson wrote about a few journalist friends telling him that Rove blames Cheney and Libby for the "problems" this scandal is causing .... so it would be a safe bet that Bush shares this interpretation of who is to blame for their getting caught up in a scandal.

Second, the president has a limited grasp of politics. This isn't to say he's stupid per say. But he isn't a student of politics. He is a student of Karl Rove. So again, his interpretation has always been Karl's interpretation. And when two people think just alike on everything, it simply means that only one of them is thinking.

Great post. Extremely important issue for placing the information that will be disclosed today in the proper context.

9. Bush placed his loyalty to Karl Rove
above his loyalty to his country. When you the President and you've taken the oath of office, then it is treason to put anyone above your country.

At this point Bush made himself an unindicted co-conspirator. I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Now if we can just make it out of the tunnel.
