Why in the hell is the Wall Street Journal going after Bush ?
I find it very curious. Either a) they are jumping ship, b) they smell blood in the water and they cannot resist, c) all of a sudden they became idealistic liberals, or d) a + b .

What do you think ?

2. AMERICAblog's theory:
"We've got the Washington Post, the New York Times, Bloomberg and, of all publications, the friggin' Wall Street Journal all competing to be THE news service that breaks the true story of what the White House did with regards to RoveGate."

6. humm -- Ari was seen carrying THE memo . . .
WHO ordered the memo in the first place?

WHO requested the information in this memo??

Perhaps with all the news dumps I've missed this detail?

Was it Bolton?

21. My theory, the conservative press has been outed and they need to cover
their asses by pretending to be liberal for a little while.

Don't trust them, a Carlyle man still sits on the board of directors at the NYT, a halliburton man is on the board of Disney/ABC, the Washington POst has a long history of Bush love:

While I would love to think that they are truely turning, but I won't belive it until they show the chimp doing the frog march.

22. Could they be starting to regard Junior as expendable?
The more his ratings drag down the chances of a GOP congress after 2006, the more they are looking at him as a possible scapegoat.

5. First law of physics maybe
For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. The world can only get so far right before there was an eventual blowback.

They finally seen that supporting Bush isn't such a hot deal with 24,500 layoffs this week alone thanks to HP and Kodak. Maybe they want real answers and not propaganda.

14. This is it in a nutshell:
"A simple way to look at this is to say that the CIA represents the interests of Wall Street and the global economic powers, while the Bush Neocons represent the interests of only one American faction of the global economy. It is inevitable that the Neocons will be replaced. Several US presidents have fought the CIA and they have always emerged on the short end of the stick. This time will be no different."

10. WSJ is a respected paper...
or at least they want to be. Yes, they are biased, but they don't want to lose their reputation. They undoubtedly see this the way the rest of the mainstream press sees it: as a huge story that could bring down an administration.

20. Yes.
I think this is absolutely right! In one of my classes in law school we had a guest speaker who was front-page editor of the WSJ. I asked him how much separation there was between the news and editorial pages, and he insisted that there was a serious wall between the two.

Conservatives think the NYT is liberal because of its fairly liberal editorial pages (while liberals think the NYT is conservative because of its pro-administration news pages.) Likewise, liberals think the WSJ is conservative because of its editorial page slant, but its news division is perhaps more objective.

13. It's probably necessary to make a distinction...
... between the paper's news reporting and its editorial page. The straight reporting isn't too bad, although still slanted toward a pro-business viewpoint, while the editorialists are raving fanatics.

My guess is that the news side sees a story, however belatedly, and they're going to write on it. When you see the editorial page abandoning ship, you know the WSJ is cutting Bush and Co. loose.

16. Bush does damage to the corporatist agenda in a way
Because Bush is moving so fast and so recklessly, he is awaking the US population to what is happening.

The corporatists have learned from their predecessors 60 years ago. Instead of moving fast and startling the people in the process, they creep along so the people remain asleep. This is more efficient than launching wars or launching a coup d'etat and then having to spend time and energy beating the population into submission. It sucks up tremendous resources in the process. Tricking is far preferrable to beating.

18. Because the Republicans are going to need cut Bush loose if they
want to hold on to any power.

If this treason thing weren't in *court*, you'd see a whole lot of ignoring going on- from all our big corporate media outlets. They'd keep painting pictures of GW Bush, Super Patriot, and counting the cash.

But it *is* in court, and that means the public is about to see very plainly that the Bush Administration intentionally lied to the public in order to sell an illegal war.

Bush is about to become the most hated US President in a hundred years, and if they don't distance themselves, he'll take the whole corporatist movement down with him.

23. Divisions among the bourgeoisie.
US capitalism is not getting the free money (oil, hegemony) it was promised. Some are, like those who depend on rape and plunder for their income, but many are seeing their profits eroded.

27. Well to be fair to the WSJ
If you can ignore their toilet paper of an editorial page--their regular journalism is better than most--Of course they, like the Financial Times of London, report from a view point of the markets..But, keeping that in mind--journalistic-ly--they are better than most of the corporate media.

29. For a reason that
will become more apparent in upcoming months: the neocons are an arrogant group of bullying fucks, and have made plenty of enemies within republican circles. But most moderate republicans don't have the guts to stand up to them .... because, as this case proves, they try to crush any opposition. Now they see someone ready to throw down with the bully, and they are seeing the bully ain't so big and bad in a fair fight.
