Could these leaks be anyhow hurting Fitz's investigation?
Just a question that's occured to me. I don't really know how or why it would -- does anybody else have an opinion about that?

2. Yes,
The leaks are (were) intended to turn the public against the investigation and enable Bush to fire Fitz or otherwise close the investigation.

Last week, the media took the (Rove's) taking points and took their best shot at acquitting Rove.

It didn't work and now we're seeing media blowback.

4. The leaks are for
public consumption. They are not from Fitzgerald's office. They are primarily coming from Rove's lawyer. (So much for Fitz destroying freedom of the press & stopping all leaks to reporters!) The idea is to innoculate the Rove Camp by putting forth bits and pieces of the bad news, especially in a way that points to the VP's office and the State Department as being more responsible that Karl .... who was merely trying to serve the president as best he could. (gag!)

In the greater scheme, it doesn't really hurt Fitzgerald. A good prosecutor turns suspects. Fat boy is scared. He is willing to point out his co-conspirators. In the end, he's no different than the kid who rats out his friendsto save his own behind.

The only downside may be that we will not be called for jury duty. I'm practicing my lines, to try to sound objective. "Bring the guilty son-of-a-gun in here and let's give him a 'fair trial.'" Think it will work?

6. Correct analysis
Unlike the sieve-like Kenneth Starr, Fitzgerald's office has not been leaking out details of the ongoing investigation. So if the leaks aren't coming from Fitzgerald, who are they coming from? Of course they're designed to influence public opinion against the special prosecutor, but a good prosecutor knows how the game is played, and so far I've been impressed with Fitzgerald's office's refusal to be drawn into the no-win game of dueling leaks.
