I am always amazed at the indifference shown by most Americans when LIES are exposed by American Leaders. It just seems to be Par for the Course. A shrug of the shoulders and "time to 'move on'". IMO it pretty much tells the tale about morality in America. I know everyone was in huge uproar over Clinton Lying about sex but I believe it was all show. LIES from this Administration are revealed daily and everyone shrugs. Is lying an American trait? Does the entire world feel that way?

2. Hell No
If an American politician came out and said

- the oil is nearly gone, forget the price ever coming down
- realistically we're going to have to raise taxes and cut budgets because of the huge debt
- Americas supply of fresh, unpolluted water is running out be prepared to use far less and to abandon irrigated fields
- There is no way we can ever win the war on terror or the war on drugs, we're just wasting your tax dollars and the lives our our citizens and innocent people abroad

etc.

they'd be run out of office and replaced by someone willing to lie.

3. I'm reading "When Presidents Lie," and I'd have to say no.
Americans have gotten to the point where they expect to be lied to, and pay very little attention. In BushCo's case, I think this is partly due to the RW noise machine, which glosses over each new revelation and twists it into an attack on the other party.

4. not everyone, dems think they're all liars
.. and independants too.

repubs think everyone else (dems, the press, anyone who challenges their delusion, etc) is lying and only their own are telling the truth.

Any (republican) politician who says "I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal savior" is considered unable to lie for some reason. even though a politician who says that is usually lying.

I have actually heard (fundie) repubs say 'democrats are all liars' - to which I respond "call me a liar again and you'll lose some teeth".

I think people do expect some lies from the govt but at the same time, I think we expect our govt to tell the truth about the big stuff.......like reasons for declaring war!!
