Do you remember why Cheney was chosen VP in the first place?
If you recall, Cheney was in charge of the search for a VP for Dubya. People said Dubya did not have enough experience and he would need someone to give him good advice. Even Repubs said that he would have the best people around him to "help" him. They knew he was a lightweight and not up to the job. So Cheney chose himself. And, as they say, the rest is history.

2. I've never forgotten that
At the time I thought it sounded so ludicrous and made Dubya look like a huge chimp, uh, I mean chump.

3. He's never won anything, as best I can tell
I've never been able to understand his appeal. Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does.

4. He did go to see prospective candidates.
IIRC, he asked them to tell him about their skeletons, in case they might embarrass the party. They did, and he got leverage over prominent repukes.

These are scary people. But you know that.

5. And we shouldn't forget who was chosen Chief of Staff after Watergate?
For Gerald Ford? It was Dick Cheney. He's been wallowing around in the filth for many, many years.

9. Let Us Remember

See, the basic notion is that Bush choose Cheney. In fact it was Cheney that chose Bush. Jr was chosen for his last name, no more and no less. Cheney and the boys looked at what they had to work with - a middle aged man of low moral character, a wasted education, questionable military service, a drinking and drug problem, children who would have been called juvenile delinquents in their father's time, a vengeful wife with a manslaughter in her background, and no work history suitable for an executive position anywhere on earth. The man-boy had a grudge against his father, a chip on his shoulder, and a desire for the good life but no intention of paying for it.

Cheney had something he could work with. That is what they molded into what we have now. Rove drove the political machinery that got him to Cheney but it was Cheney who then dealt out the policy making apparatus to the highest bidder.

Never forget this about Bush. He has absolutely nothing to do with Policy, he is all politics. His political game is driven by Rove but the policys that drive the nation all come from Cheney. Cheney needed a puppet and he got on in Junior.
