Bush warns of "impending doom"... wtf?

Sorry if this has been discussed, but I didn't a thread about it.

From the following story:

The (over)exercise of power
Jonathan Chait

July 22, 2005

A week ago, when President Bush met with Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III to interview him for a potential Supreme Court nomination, the conversation turned to exercise. When asked by the president of the United States how often he exercised, Wilkinson impressively responded that he runs 3 1/2 miles a day. Bush urged him to adopt more cross-training. "He warned me of impending doom," Wilkinson told the New York Times.

Am I the only person who finds this disturbing?...

Was this some sort of weird Freudian slip? What the hell did he have in mind (so to speak)?

35. It seems you are right:
Via Google and this hit: http://www.oxblog.blogspot.com/

Consider how the NYT's Elisabeth Bumiller describes Bush's decision to nominate Roberts rather than Harvie Wilkinson:
"Well, I told him I ran three and a half miles a day," Judge Wilkinson recalled in a telephone interview on Wednesday. "And I said my doctor recommends a lot of cross-training, but I said I didn't want to do the elliptical and the bike and the treadmill." The president, Judge Wilkinson said, "took umbrage at that," and told his potential nominee that he should do the cross-training his doctor suggested.

"He thought I was well on my way to busting my knees," said Judge Wilkinson, 60. "He warned me of impending doom."

39. I would guess those aren't Bush's words.
Many lawyers think its vaguely amusing to use pompous hyperbole. Bush might have said "thats bad for the knees," Judge Smails there translted it too "heh heh heh heh, he warned me of impending doom." Its such a lawyer-y thing to do, I am certain of it. "then he waxed philosophical on the issue of table condiments."

8. impending doom..
This idea just shows to go ya that Bush and the freeper fundies are truly crazy about endtimes and the rapture.

Sometimes I think Bush gets a real buzz.. no a rush.. from the idea that humanity is doomed on this planet. I mean, the way things are going with pollution, overpopulation, corporatism, and global warming, the planet earth will not be able to support humans much longer. It's predicted that 75% of all species will be extinct within the next fifty years. I'm wondering if that's not a bit optimistic.

13. What kind of interviews are these?
The New York Times article said he talked to Wilkinson for about an hour, during which he talked about Wilkinson's upbringing and schooling, as well as about his exercise habits. With Roberts he talked about exercise and his school football experience. I hope he got to a couple of questions about law. What an embarrassment.

Who really thought Bush had anyone in mind for a Supreme Court spot? The dunce doesn't even know how the US government functions.

11. I'd give shrub a pass on THIS one
I read the column this morning and it was more of a whimsical riff on Shrub's fitness fetish, which he cogently suggests is the flip side of his addictive personality.

As far as the learned Judge putting those words in the Dufus's mouth, well, I think the Judge was being ironic.

This is a first for me.

17. This could be a good sign...
one of the symptoms of heart attack is a sense of impending doom:

<snip>
The American Heart Association and other medical experts say the body likely will send one or more of these warning signals of a heart attack:

  • Uncomfortable pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of the chest lasting more than a few minutes.
  • Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms. The pain may be mild to intense. It may feel like pressure, tightness, burning, or heavy weight. It may be located in the chest, upper abdomen, neck, jaw, or inside the arms or shoulders.
  • Chest discomfort with lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath.
  • Anxiety, nervousness and/or cold, sweaty skin.
  • Paleness or pallor.
  • Increased or irregular heart rate.
  • Feeling of impending doom.

Going from one addiction to another.

Is he still addicted to religion, or is that now in passing?

The article writer is right, he does spend an awful lot of time on these activities. So long as he has Rove and Cheney running the country and foreign relations, as well as having Rove tell him what to do and say, he has all the time in the world to pleasure himself.

Which means we are living in a two-fold election fraud.

The first fraud was Bush* 'winning'.

The second fraud is Bush* having others do the job he was 'elected' to do.

God, I'm going to puke again.
