House OKs bill making Patriot Act permanent

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"WASHINGTON - The House passed a bill Thursday night that would make permanent several controversial provisions of the USA Patriot Act, a sweeping anti-terrorism and anti-crime law that Congress passed in the weeks after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
The House, which approved the measure 257-171, began debate shortly after the Senate Judiciary Committee approved its own version of the bill.

Both bills would make permanent 14 of 16 Patriot Act provisions set to expire Dec. 31. Both would also extend "sunsets," or expiration dates, for two other provisions - one dealing with wiretaps and the other with seizures of library and medical records.

5. Has Diebold been consulted about this "retake Congress" plan?

14. Diebold can be held to account, but it'll take a lot of bodies -
But once we're back they will be the first business we investigate,
and after we throw the guilty bastards in jail and fix the system, we'll Move ON!

Personally, I think the guys who program and build slot machines would be perfect for the job.
Those guys know how to write code that can't be fucked with.

7. no .the Patriots were either fighting in VN or protesting VN
while the chikenhawks and neo-cons plotted the criminal overthrow of the US govt and demonized the Patriots for the VN war which they supported and avoided..

8. Anyone who think a Democratic majority in congress will make a
difference is seriously deluding themselves. Didn't you know when they first passed it that it would become permanent? Didn't the Democrats then? Oh wait, they didn't even read it.

12. Having now read it
is all the more reason to repeal it, at least most of it.

Then we repeal the tax cuts; income and capital gains.
Then we raise the FICA tax cap.
Then we repeal that perversion of a Medicare bill. And the bills that won't allow collective bargaining for the cost of drugs.
Then we strangle Star Wars, the Osprey and half a dozen other projects the Pentagon doesn't even want.
Then dismantle the 35,000+ nuclear warheads we are stockpiling at God knows what expense.
Shit, We'll be out of the red in no time.

Then we implement The New New Deal:
Put millions of people back to work rebuilding the national infrastructure that's been so badly neglected for too long,
including a national fiber optic cable network.
Break up the communications conglomerates just like they did the industrial monsters of 100 years ago.
Pass a National Universal Health Care Plan.
Invest heavily in, and give tax breaks for, developing renewable energy sources.

Then, after lunch - -

15. Remember the line from "Trading PLaces"?
"If you wanna hurt rich people, take their money away."
Make them live in the poverty they've created for the people they've exploited.

16. nice thought..
after all the history of more recent yrs would indicate that the privleged elites have no need of nation or nationalism or patriotism..their allegiance continues to be to their wealth and the protection of this wealth..
Why is it called unearned wealth??

most wealth is inherited???
